Xiangshan Hall in Dongzha, Wuzhen
The "Xiang" (香) in "Xiangshan" (香山) refers to the high value of traditional Chinese medicine, while "Shan" (山) describes the medicinal herbs piled up like a mountain.
The shop faces south with its back to the north, and inside the hall, three medicine cabinets known as "hundred-eye cabinets" are placed on the east and north walls, storing various commonly used Chinese herbs. A L-shaped counter is set up along the street-facing side of the hall—this is the dispensing counter where herbal prescriptions are prepared. In front of the shop, the faded old "North-South" signboard, though somewhat worn, still creaks in the riverside breeze.
