Black pottery originated in China's Neolithic Age and became a mainstream culture in the late Neolithic period. This black pottery culture runs through the early civilization history of Wuzhen. The town is named "Wu" (meaning "black"), so the ancestors always referred to the black pottery of Wuzhen as "Wu Pottery." The craft of making Wu Pottery gradually disappeared during the Shang Dynasty. In the late 20th century, with the rediscovery of black pottery handcrafting techniques, Wu Pottery regained its former glory.

The Wu Pottery Workshop is a typical example of a Jiangnan-style workshop with a "front shop, back workshop" layout. Most of the items sold in the front shop are made in the back workshop. Among the featured products in the front shop are ocarinas, ceramic utensils, and various decorative items. These products are mostly made from deeply dug clay and crafted through special and complex production and firing processes, preserving and continuing the essence of thousands of years of pottery culture. They fully showcase and revive the spiritual essence and humanistic historical charm of Wu Pottery culture.
