Zhang Tongsheng’s Old Residence is located in South Lane and was once home to the daughters of wealthy families. Originally, I thought I would be visiting the interior, but it actually only involves taking a look at the exterior from the entrance. The house is currently inhabited by residents, so the inside is not open to visitors. Many things were damaged during the Cultural Revolution’s campaign to destroy the Four Olds. Some of the carvings on the corbels under the corridor on the second floor were knocked off, causing that section of the walkway to sag slightly. As a result, two very large pillars have been installed to hold it up, and many of the carvings have been damaged.
