Tongxiang Zhong Xuzhou Numismatic Art Museum

The Zhong Xuzhou Numismatic Art Museum is a purely public-interest institution under the Tongxiang Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication. Established on November 12, 2009, it is located in the northern section of the Botanical Garden on Zhenxing East Road in Tongxiang, with a total floor area of 2,417 square meters. It is a museum that emphasizes both history and art, integrating collection, exhibition, research, public education, and cultural exchange. It is currently the only specialized numismatic museum in Zhejiang Province. The exhibits on display number over 5,000 coins and pieces, all donated by Mr. Zhong Xuzhou. They primarily consist of Chinese coins from various dynasties, covering everything from the four main types of ancient coins used in the Pre-Qin period—shell money, spade money, knife money, and round coins—to today’s Renminbi. The collection includes many rare and even unique items, such as the Six-Character Qi Knife, Gold Wu Zhu coins, and the National Treasure Gold Ingot (Zhongguo Jingui · Zhiwan), all of which are considered treasured artifacts in the history of Chinese currency and are the museum’s prized exhibits.

The first floor of the Numismatic Museum displays an exhibition on Chinese paper money and anti-counterfeiting knowledge; the second floor presents a comprehensive and systematic overview of Chinese coins through the ages; the third floor features an exhibit of Liangzhu black pottery, bronze ware, and calligraphy and paintings by notable figures. With the completion and opening of the Numismatic Museum, it is expected to become a hub for research, collection, and exchange in the numismatic community, and will also greatly promote the cultural development of Tongxiang City.
