Xu Xiaobing and Hou Bo Memorial Hall
Originally named the Hou Bo & Xu Xiaobing Photography Art Gallery, the Xu Xiaobing and Hou Bo Memorial Hall broke ground at No. 8 Qingfeng South Road in 1991, covering an area of 600 square meters. It officially opened to the public on December 10, 1993. In December 2013, the new memorial hall building with a floor area of 2,391 square meters was completed and opened to the public on Huanyuan Road in the northern section of the botanical garden.
Xu Xiaobing and Hou Bo were a renowned couple of revolutionary photographers in China. From the Yan’an period through the 1950s and 1960s, they used their cameras and film equipment to document a large number of documentaries and photographs of significant documentary and historical value. These include immortal masterpieces such as "On Protracted War," "Liberate All of China," "The Founding Ceremony," and "Swimming in the Yangtze River." In 1991, the two elderly individuals donated over 2,700 of their film and photographic works created throughout their lives to their hometown. In 2013, their children further donated more than 7,000 items including photographs, books, and materials. After the completion and opening of the new hall, it will serve as a patriotic education base where visitors can pay tribute to the spirit of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, experience the turbulent years of struggle, and revisit the revolutionary ethos.
