Guohua Abacus Museum

Introduction: Located in the eastern part of Linhai, the museum houses a collection of over 1,300 types of abacuses, more than 3,000 historical materials related to abacus use, and over 1,500 photos and documents on domestic and international abacus activities. The oldest includes an abacus used during the Ming Dynasty; the largest stands 1.68 meters tall, 6.25 meters long, and weighs 1,008 kilograms; the longest has 225 rods; the heaviest weighs 589 kilograms, and the smallest is just half the size of a fingernail. The collection features abacuses made from various materials such as gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum, gemstones, ivory, pearls, ceramics, wood, and stone, as well as craft abacuses in various shapes. With a wide variety and dazzling array, it is China’s only museum dedicated entirely to displaying abacuses, showcasing the culmination of abacuses from ancient to modern times, both in China and abroad. Renowned publications such as "The Complete Book of Chinese Abacus" and "The World Encyclopedia of Abacus" have hailed it as a “Chinese national treasure.”
