A dazzling mirage of unique architecture emerges in the desert

Unique architecture and special landscaping are among the top choices for many travelers, as well as popular backdrops for photography enthusiasts. Near the city of Palm Springs in the western United States, there is a structure called the Mirage. As the name suggests, the design of this building resembles the wondrous sight of a mirage. Its exterior is entirely covered with high-strength, high-definition mirrors, presenting different appearances under varying weather conditions and viewing angles throughout the day, creating a magical impression.

This mirage-like Mirage structure was designed and built by American artist and director Doug Aitken. Unlike traditional land art, Doug Aitken’s works showcase continuous and ever-changing sceneries. Even in the absence of the creator, the artwork itself continues to express its unique characteristics, challenging people’s perception of the boundary between dreams and nature—an astonishing experience.
