On April 20, the 2019 Shanghai City Amateur Sports League Skoda HEROS China Cycling Series – Shanghai-Chongming Stage, jointly organized by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau and the Shanghai Sports Federation, specially supported by the Shanghai Chongming District Sports Bureau, and hosted by Shanghai Hongjing Sports Development Co., Ltd., with co-organization by Shanghai Chenjiazhen Development & Construction Co., Ltd. and the Shanghai Chongming District Cycling Association, successfully concluded in Chenjiazhen, Chongming District, Shanghai.

April in Chongming sees lush grass, singing birds, and blooming flowers — a perfect season for cycling. Located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, Chongming Island is China’s third-largest island and boasts the reputation of being the “Gateway to the Yangtze and the Fairyland of the East Sea.” It borders Jiangsu Province to the east, faces the East China Sea to the southeast, and looks across the river to Pudong New Area and Baoshan District to the southwest. With its clean waters and fresh breezes, the island is full of unspoiled natural scenery, making cycling here an absolute delight.

Leveraging the brand influence of HEROS, the event attracted numerous cycling enthusiasts from regions including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui, with over 500 participants. Through this event, which used a sports competition as a vehicle, it helped promote coordinated development among cities in the Yangtze River Delta to a certain extent. Notably, the race was held in Chenjiazhen, Chongming — a national-level sports tourism characteristic town recognized by the General Administration of Sport of China. The town features a dedicated 60 km cycling greenway, serving as a world-class sports training base and a national sports industry demonstration site. Many participating cyclists said that cycling here offers a dual enjoyment of sport and tourism.

The competition included six categories: Elite Group, Women’s Group, U25 Group, U35 Group, Masters Group, and University Men’s Group. The race format was a road circuit race, with each lap spanning 5 km. After several intense rounds, winners from all categories were crowned, and the various colored champion jerseys found their rightful owners.

It is reported that the HEROS China Cycling Series is a non-professional cycling race professionally planned, operated, and managed by Hongjing Sports. Leveraging the race, it has established a unique cycling culture and sports brand in China — HEROS — aiming to promote the cycling philosophy of “cherishing health, ecological protection, leisure life, and connecting with nature,” creating a distinctive cycling culture, elevating the overall level of cycling nationwide, and advancing the mass fitness movement. The second stop of the 2019 Skoda HEROS China Cycling Series – Hongjing Maple Ride will take place on May 12 in Qiandao Lake, Zhejiang.
