Wanshan Island is located 39 nautical miles southeast of Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, with multiple daily passenger ferries making transportation extremely convenient. The island’s coastline is winding and rugged, featuring cliffs as high as fifty to sixty meters. The main venue of the climbing festival, Storm Point, is situated on Da Wanshan Island and consists of a section of cliffs approximately 1.5 kilometers long and a small isolated island, with a narrow strait about 25 meters wide in between, which climbers must cross using a zip line to reach the small island. This also adds an element of fun to the climbing activities. The site was discovered by rock climbing enthusiasts as early as 2010 and has been developed and sponsored by Kaisi, where two previous editions of the Kaisi Island Climbing Festival have been successfully held.
Storm Point is a unique sea cliff climbing area in China. It currently offers 60 developed routes ranging from beginner to advanced levels, suitable for climbers of all stages. To make the event more accessible to the public, the organizers will open five beginner routes for citizens to try out. "In fact, rock climbing is really not as difficult as you might imagine." Hosting the climbing festival not only allows the general public to learn about the sport and experience the joy of climbing, but also hopes to establish Wanshan Island in Zhuhai as a renowned sea climbing destination among climbers nationwide.
The biggest highlight of the 3rd Kaisi Island Climbing Festival.
First, Titanium Equipment Experience: In addition to the titanium bolts used throughout the climbing area, this year Kaisi has developed new titanium climbing and slacklining equipment, which will be available for on-site trial experiences.
Second, Island Freestyle Slacklining: Performances and live interactions by top Chinese slackliners such as Nanjing Budaibei.
Third, Highline Over the Sea: Performances by Chen Hui and Zhang Liang, who will walk highlines over the sea at a height of 26 meters and a length of 31 meters, delivering a breathtaking visual spectacle.
This event invites three of China’s top slackliners to gather in Zhuhai, where an exciting and highly entertaining challenge competition will take place from October 18 to 20.
