Yan'en Temple is located in Yongquan Town, Linhai City. It was first built in the fifth year of the Taikang era of the Jin Dynasty (284), originally named Yongquan Temple. It got its name from a legend that Ren Xu, a renowned official of the Jin Dynasty, had a sister who built a hermitage here to chant lotus sutras, where a spring emerged from the ground and white lotuses bloomed. During the Xiantong era of the Tang Dynasty, the temple's plaque was renamed and bestowed the title "Yan'en." The main hall, the Mahavira Hall, enshrines three Buddha statues: Amitabha Buddha, Guanyin, and Mahasthamaprapta. It is said that the three Buddhas came personally in golden thrones to welcome the monk Huaiyu when he departed for the West. The surrounding area of the temple is serene and picturesque, with dozens of tall, majestic ancient cypresses lining the outer walls on both the east and west sides of the temple gate. To the west of the temple, the Xishan Waterfall cascades down in three tiers, rushing and flowing powerfully. In recent years, the local government has also developed the "Eight Scenic Spots of Yan'en": Yan'en Ancient Temple, Ancient Path Shade, Xishan Waterfall, Dragon Pearl Pagoda, Immortal Ancient Well, Stream Jade Belt, Dragon Horn Stone Bamboo, and Golden Ox Playing in Water.
