Tomb of Zheng Qian (Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit)

Era: Tang–Qing

Announcement Date: August 29, 1997

The Tomb of Zheng Qian is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The tomb was originally built in the second year of the Guangde era of the Tang Dynasty (764). In the ninth year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1870), Liu ?, the prefect of Taizhou, carried out renovations, and in March 1965, descendants of the Zheng family funded another restoration. The tomb surface is 1.66 meters high and 2.1 meters wide, with lotus pillars on both sides. The central plaque is inscribed with the four characters “Tai Jiao Zheng Zong” (Orthodox Teachings of Taizhou). The tomb inscription reads “Tomb of Zheng Qian, Doctor of the Guangwen Hall in the Tang Dynasty, styled Ruozhi and also known as Qian, and his wife Lady Guo.” In early March 1990, to welcome experts from the Chinese Tang Dynasty Literature Society—both domestic and international—for the investigation of Zheng Qian’s historical legacy, the tomb site was renovated. The tomb platform was constructed with three tiers, connected by stone steps, and a Tang-style stone stele pavilion named “Ruozhi Pavilion” was newly built on the first tier.

The Tomb of Zheng Qian is one of the more well-preserved celebrity tombs in our city. Through the renovation of the tomb site, the scale of the tomb area has been enhanced. Additionally, the stele pavilion retains the handwriting of contemporary renowned scholars and calligraphers, reflecting a certain level of artistic quality. Since the Tang Dynasty, this tomb has served as a site for people to pay respects or sweep the grave of Zheng Qian, and it has been preserved to this day, possessing significant historical, cultural, educational value.
