Martyr Guo Fengsha (Former Residence) Memorial Hall

The Martyr Guo Fengsha (Former Residence) Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a base for patriotic education.

The former residence of Guo Fengsha, also known as the Martyr Guo Fengsha Memorial Hall, is located at No. 14 Zhutian Lane, Gucheng Subdistrict, Linhai City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province (a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit).

Guo Fengsha (1911–1930) was born in the ancient city of Linhai, Zhejiang Province. Influenced by her parents from an early age, she embraced anti-feudal and anti–old ethical code ideas, and took part in activities of the “Customs Reform Association.” In 1925, she participated in the May Thirtieth anti-imperialist movement, joined the Yi-Chou Reading Society in 1926, and became a member of the Communist Youth League that same year. During the April 12 Counterrevolutionary Coup in 1927, she used her young age and inconspicuous presence to her advantage to help rescue comrades, then later transferred to study at Xiaozhuang Normal School in Nanjing. In 1930, she joined the Chinese Communist Party and served as a party cell leader, courier, and women’s labor committee member of the Nanjing Anti-Imperialist League. She was arrested in September 1930 due to betrayal by a traitor, endured severe torture, and remained resolute. On October 25 of the same year, she was executed heroically at Yuhuatai, at the age of 19. In May 2005, the Linhai Municipal Government restored her former residence and opened it as a memorial hall for the martyr.

The Martyr Guo Fengsha (Former Residence) Memorial Hall was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the Publicity Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee in July 2010.

The Gucheng Subdistrict Office of Linhai City was established on February 9, 2001, covering an area of 81 square kilometers. It governs 12 community committees, 23 administrative villages, and one vegetable company (formed through the restructuring of a vegetable village). With a permanent population of 132,000 (including 105,000 residents) and a migrant population of 45,000, it is a municipal-level dispatched institution established after certain suburban areas were carved out from the former Chengguan Town People's Government of Linhai City.
