The First Party Branch Exhibition Hall of Huairou

The First Party Branch Exhibition Hall of Huairou is located in Miaoshang Village, Jiuduhe Town, bordering Sihai Town in Yanqing County. The village has 52 households and a population of 149. In 1940, Gao Wanzhang, then secretary of the Second District Committee of the former Chang-Yan United County, developed party members here and established the Party branch in October of the same year. It was the first Party branch in Huairou, hence Miaoshang Village is often referred to as the “Little Xibaipo of Huairou.” In 2006, the Jiuduhe Town Party Committee and government expanded the site of the Miaoshang Village Party branch, erecting a statue of Comrade Gao Wanzhang in the red education base square and constructing a 120-square-meter exhibition hall displaying over 300 items including relics, photos, and documents from various periods of the revolutionary war. In 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level patriotic education base.

Gao Wanzhang, also known as Gao Lingping, was born in 1909 into a farming family in Huoshatu Gully, Hesiliang Township, Dalad Banner, Yikezhao League. He attended a private school in his early years. In 1926, he was admitted to the Second Provincial Middle School of Suiyuan, located in Baotou.

In 1933, Gao Wanzhang enrolled at the College of Agriculture of Peking University. Influenced by the political climate of the time, he began to embrace new ideas and revolutionary theories, gradually becoming a key figure in student movement activities.
