He was about to take a train back to his hometown that evening, but in the morning went to Huairou to climb a wild section of the Great Wall, where he fell down a steep slope and was fortunately caught by a tree. The accident occurred the day before yesterday near Tianxianyu Village, Bohai Town, Huairou District.
The man, 35 years old, had come from Anhui to handle some business in Beijing. At 6 a.m. the day before yesterday, he began climbing the wild Jiankou section of the Great Wall in Tianxianyu Village, Huairou. He had planned to come down the mountain by noon to catch an 8 p.m. train back to his hometown. But in the afternoon of the accident day, he fell while climbing a steep slope and was luckily caught by a large tree.
At the time, the man was covered in blood and unable to move, and his mobile phone had also been knocked away. Fortunately, another hiker who happened to pass by helped him call the police.
At around 4:10 p.m. the day before yesterday, the Yingbinlu Squadron of the Huairou Fire Brigade received the emergency call and quickly dispatched seven firefighters to the scene. Learning that the man was seriously injured and needed urgent medical attention, they also coordinated with the Yanchi Fire Squadron for backup on the way.
After more than an hour of difficult climbing, the firefighters finally reached the spot where the man was trapped. He was lying next to the tree that had broken his fall, his face covered in blood, with multiple fractures in his hands and legs. Emergency medical personnel immediately provided first aid, bandaging his wounds and administering intravenous fluids. Firefighters also personally gave him water to help replenish his strength.
After surveying the terrain, the firefighters decided to use a multi-functional stretcher to carry the man down the mountain. However, the slope was extremely steep, nearly 60 degrees to the ground, making it impossible to stand steadily. To ensure safety, the firefighters tied thick ropes securely to another large tree and then fastened the stretcher to the ropes, slowly lowering him down.
During the rescue, rocks kept falling from the mountain. One firefighter standing at the bottom to assist kept his focus on the safety of the man on the stretcher, enduring being hit and bruised by falling rocks without dodging them. By 9:20 p.m. that evening, the injured man was finally safely rescued and brought down the mountain, then transferred onto an ambulance.
It is understood that after the incident, the tourist who helped call the police not only took off his own clothes to cover the injured man, but also stayed with him until rescuers arrived, then quietly left the scene. The injured man only knows that the kind-hearted Good Samaritan surnamed Jia and is from Chaoyang District.
