Destination Introduction

Jiugukou Scenic Area is located at Hefangkou in HuaiBei Town, Huairou District, approximately 80 kilometers from downtown Beijing. Covering an area of over 10,000 acres with a forest coverage rate exceeding 85%, the area is home to various animals and birds, boasting a pristine ecological environment.

The scenic area features cultural relics such as the ancient Ming Dynasty Great Wall, and natural wonders including nine valleys: Wangcheng Valley, Milky Way Valley, Poplar Valley, Echoing Spring Valley, One-Line Sky, Whale Rock Valley, Peach Blossom Valley, Ox Hoof Valley, and Vine Valley. Each valley has its unique scenery, making it an ideal place for afforestation, summer camps, and leisure tourism.

Overview: Jiugukou Natural Scenic Area is situated at Hefangkou in HuaiBei Town, Huairou District. Traveling 5 kilometers north along the Huaiyu Highway via Yanqi Lake, it neighbors Qinglong Gorge and lies about 80 kilometers from downtown Beijing. The area spans over 700 hectares with a forest coverage rate of over 85%, providing a habitat for wildlife and an excellent ecological environment. It serves as a great destination for afforestation, summer camps, and leisure tourism.

Cultural Attractions: The site preserves a well-maintained section of the ancient Ming Dynasty Great Wall. From the mountain pass, the wall extends majestically along the ridges of towering peaks. Though not as grand as in its prime, it still exudes a powerful aura and timeless charm. Historical records indicate that during the Ming and Qing dynasties, this was already a key military stronghold, guarded year-round by stationed troops. The “Jianpian Tower” watchtower is considered a masterpiece of Great Wall architecture, with detailed records available at the Badaling Museum.

Natural Attractions: The scenic area contains nine main valleys—Wangcheng Valley, Milky Way Valley, Poplar Valley, Echoing Spring Valley, One-Line Sky, Whale Rock Valley, Peach Blossom Valley, Ox Hoof Valley, and Vine Valley—each with distinct and stunning landscapes. Highlights include: Whale Rock Valley, Heavenly Fairy Platform, Yuanbao Rock, Hat Rock, Echoing Spring Valley, Thunder-split Rock, Guanyin Rock, and Reclining Buddha Rock. Currently, the first phase of development in the scenic area has been completed, featuring a uniquely designed mountain gate, a wooden curved corridor restaurant, villa cottages nestled among mountains and forests, a beach sports field surrounded by hills, a grass-skiing slope built into the mountain, a hot air balloon soaring at the mountaintop, authentic farmhouse meals, trout fishing and barbecuing in the woods, and campfire parties embraced by mountains and water. Take Bus Tourist Route 16 and get off at Qinglong Gorge Intersection, or take Bus 936 directly to the scenic area. By car, take the Jing-Shun Road from Sanyuanqiao to Huairou, then drive along the Huaiyu Highway and pass Yanqi Lake, continuing 5 kilometers north to reach the site.

HuaiBei Town: Located at the junction of the mountainous and plain areas in the northern part of Huairou District, HuaiBei Town is 8.5 kilometers from the urban center. The town covers an area of 104.72 square kilometers, with 78.3% being mountainous and 21.7% consisting of plains and hills. It comprises 10 administrative villages with a total population of 12,000.

HuaiBei Town enjoys a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. National Highway 111 runs through the town from north to south, with multiple long-distance bus stations along the route.
