Hefangkou Great Wall

Hefangkou Great Wall is located 15 kilometers north of Chengguan Town in Huairou District. It was built during the Ming Dynasty on the foundation of the Northern Qi Great Wall and has been a military focus since ancient times. During the reign of Emperor Muzong of Ming, troops from the three regiments of Hejian were stationed here to guard it. The name comes from its strategic location along the river. Today, both the pass and the fortress have been destroyed. At the site of the pass, only the stone foundation of a watchtower remains on the west side of the highway. After 2011, restoration work began on a total of 25 structures, including watchtowers and platforms.

Currently, only the "Clamped Tower" remains well-preserved. It is said to be the only rectangular watchtower on the entire Great Wall. The western section’s “Clamped Tower” is considered a masterpiece of Great Wall architecture and is believed to have been built during the time when the famous Ming Dynasty anti-Japanese general Qi Jiguang was stationed at Jimen Pass.

Take bus 916 (the Beijing-Chengde Express, 40-minute ride) from the Dongzhimen Transport Hub to Huairou Bus Station, then transfer to the outer ring line to Yujia yuan, and switch to the green bus (bus 936 heading toward Liulimiao). Get off at Jiugukou Station (northwest of Huabei Ski Resort).
