Fujin Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

The Fujin Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination and a national defense education base.

The Fujin Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was established in 1947, covering an area of 13,000 square meters, and houses the remains of 217 revolutionary martyrs. Among them, there are 2 military-ranked martyrs and 6 division-ranked martyrs. In 1999, to honor the deeds of the martyrs and educate future generations, the Fujin Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, despite facing severe financial constraints, raised funds totaling 1.2 million yuan through various channels and carried out renovation and expansion of the cemetery in three phases over three years. The area of the cemetery was expanded from the original 13,000 square meters to the current 35,000 square meters, and 60 new concrete and marble tombs were built. A 10-meter-long, 7-meter-high martyrs’ memorial monument and a 1,500-square-meter plaza in front of the monument were constructed in the style of classical Chinese garden architecture. An 870-meter-long wall, a 16-meter-high and 15-meter-wide classical-style main gate for the martyrs' cemetery, and an inscription personally written by Chen Lei, a veteran revolutionary from our province, were also added.

A 170-square-meter cemetery office and martyrs’ deeds exhibition room were built, along with an 180-square-meter colorful corridor, pavilions, rockeries, ornamental ponds, and pathways connecting various scenic spots. Additionally, a 5,000-square-meter parking lot was constructed, an 800-square-meter plaza in front of the corridor was paved with colored floor tiles, a 400-meter drainage ditch was installed, 9,000 square meters of lawn were planted, 36,000 trees were added, and irrigation facilities with a capacity of 30,000 square meters were installed. Today, the entire martyrs' cemetery is solemn and majestic, elegant and splendid, surrounded by greenery, and set in beautiful scenery. It has become an important site for patriotic education activities in Fujin City.

To fully leverage the cemetery’s role as a patriotic education base, it is open to all visitors free of charge. During important commemorative days such as Tomb-Sweeping Day, August 15th, and September 18th, the Fujin Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government organize over 10,000 participants including government officials, employees from enterprises and public institutions, members of social organizations, and primary and secondary school students to pay respects at the martyrs’ graves and honor their heroic deeds. In particular, minors are regularly organized to visit the martyrs’ exhibition hall to view the relics of the martyrs and promotional paintings of major battle scenes, listen to accounts of the martyrs’ lives, and strengthen their sense of patriotism. Primary and secondary schools across the city often hold induction ceremonies for the Young Pioneers and Communist Youth League in front of the cemetery’s memorial monument, as well as garden tour activities, further cultivating students' patriotic sentiments. In 2001, the Fujin Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was designated by the provincial Party committee and government as a provincial-level patriotic education base and a provincial-level national defense education base, and was approved as a provincial-level protected site for martyrs’ memorial structures.
