The Story of Faces: Sipping Coffee and Tasting Art

Large, round eyes seemingly gaze into the distance as if their souls have left their bodies, while similar, contemplative faces reveal the deepest stories within people. Stepping into Fùjǐn Kitchen in Sunlight Avenue is like entering a modern art gallery. The calm wooden tones and the pleasant scents wafting through the air allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the artworks before them. A wall corridor composed of multiple wooden panels forms a natural exhibition space. Turning around, a square wooden table displays a white art sculpture of a human and a dog — an aesthetic that seems conflicting yet harmonious, embodying the idea that art is life.

The Sunlight Avenue Art Space showcases works by young artist Guim Tió from Barcelona in May and June. The exhibition is titled “The Dark Side of the Moon.” The artist responds to the aesthetic values dominated by media and advertising in modern society through humor, satire, and provocation. Using models from fashion magazines — who set trends and hypnotically influence modern definitions of beauty and charm — as a foundation, he employs his self-created “eye surgery” technique to preserve, cover, reorganize, and recreate. This metaphorically suggests that when people alter themselves through genetic modification or cosmetic surgery in pursuit of perfection, there are many hidden secrets and dark sides of human nature behind that so-called flawlessness.
