Large, round eyes seem to gaze soulfully into the distance, while similar, contemplative faces reveal the deepest stories within people. Stepping into Fook Kam Kitchen at Sunlight Boulevard feels like entering a modern art gallery. The calm wooden tones and the pleasant fragrance in the air allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the artworks before them. A long wall made up of multiple wooden panels serves as a natural exhibition space. Turn around, and on a square wooden table sits a white art sculpture of a human and a dog. The seemingly conflicting yet harmonious aesthetic reflects how art is life itself.

The Sunlight Boulevard art space presents works by young artist Guim Tió from Barcelona in May and June. The exhibition, titled “The Dark Side of the Moon,” sees the artist responding with humor, irony, and provocation to the aesthetic values dominated by media and advertising in modern society. Drawing from the trendsetting models in fashion magazines that hypnotically influence modern perceptions of beauty and allure, the artist uses his self-created “eye surgery” technique—preserving, covering, reassembling, and recreating—to metaphorically suggest that beneath so-called perfection achieved through genetic modification and cosmetic surgery lie many hidden secrets and the darker sides of human nature.
