Amusement park dates? A Ferris wheel ride is the sweetest choice.

During the summer vacation to beat the heat, amusement parks across Taiwan are in full competitive swing, but which one is the public’s favorite? Domestic travel agencies conducted the “2013 Taiwan Theme Park Grand Survey” in the first half of this year, conducting online polls for three travel purposes: family outings, summer water fun, and couple dates. The results showed that the top three theme parks most suitable for family outings are Leofoo Village Theme Park, Ocean Park, and Miniature Land; the top three for summer water fun are Formosa Fun Coast, Lihpao Land, and Ocean Park. Meanwhile, E-DA Theme Park, Ocean Park, and Janfusun Fancyworld all feature iconic, romantic Ferris wheels, making them the top three favorite theme parks for couples.

In this online poll, the “Best Family Theme Park” chosen by netizens was Leofoo Village Theme Park, receiving 773 votes (13%). Currently, Leofoo Village features four major themed areas: the wild and rugged “Wild West,” the passionate and romantic “South Pacific,” the Middle Eastern dream city “Arabian Royal Palace,” and the wildlife kingdom “African Safari” with ecological educational significance. This summer, it has also added new hardware and software such as nighttime LED float parades, stage effects, dazzling lasers, and fireworks to create a brand-new evening grand show.

 

Ocean Park, which came in just a little behind with 725 votes (12%), not only offers a variety of thrilling rides but also features the most popular dolphin shows for kids. In third place is Miniature Land, known for its OPEN Magic Park and miniature architectural models. The survey results show that family-friendly theme parks prioritize multifunctional cultural parks that offer both education and leisure. Whether it’s a wildlife kingdom, dolphin shows, or miniature versions of world-famous landmarks, they are perfect for family fun.

As summer arrives, it’s the peak season for water parks across Taiwan to compete for visitors, often introducing new facilities and discounted ticket prices to attract crowds. In this survey, the most popular summer water park, chosen by netizens, is Formosa Fun Coast, covering nine hectares and receiving 1226 votes (21%). Not only is Formosa Fun Coast currently the largest water park in Southeast Asia, but it also has the most attractions and water slides in Taiwan, featuring a collection of the most thrilling slides. For example, the “UFO Adventure,” which has the longest large slide in Asia and is the most popular, and the “Heavenly Lake Journey,” claimed to be the longest slide in Southeast Asia, taking up to fifteen minutes to complete, where you can even gaze at Guanyin Mountain and the Taiwan Strait during the ride. Additionally, Formosa Fun Coast has specially planned promotional events this year such as the “Bikini Slide Competition,” “Formosa Water Rock Festival,” “Formosa Water Boys Selection,” and “Children’s Summer Camp,” allowing visitors to fully enjoy the summer.

 

Ranking second and third in the summer water fun category are Lihpao Land and Ocean Park. Originally called “Yue Mei Leisure World,” Lihpao Land is a well-known large-scale amusement park in Houli District, Taichung. The park combines land and water recreational facilities and is divided into two major theme parks: “Marawan” and “Discovery Land.” The park features exciting water attractions such as the “Mega Wave,” an artificial wave that can reach up to 3 meters high, the “Achiou Bay” where cold springs cascade down from above, the “Lazy River” with spraying water jets along the way, and the “Speedy Brave” where you can dive into the water from a height. The variety of water play facilities helps beat the summer heat.

Couples who want to avoid the crowds of urban areas or typical tourist spots often choose amusement parks for dates. In this poll, E-DA Theme Park won the title of Best Couple Theme Park, receiving 1110 votes (19%). E-DA Theme Park is not only the only theme park in Taiwan that operates at night all year round, but also the only one with a Greek-themed setting. The park is divided into three zones: “City of David,” “Santorini Mountain Town,” and “Troy City,” and it also boasts the tallest Ferris wheel in Taiwan. Paired with 128 kinds of dazzling nighttime light shows from an altitude of 230 meters, it offers a panoramic view of the beautiful southern Taiwan landscape. In addition, E-DA Theme Park has specially planned a dreamy and romantic Greek wedding photo package for couples planning to get married, leaving them with the most beautiful memories of their love vows.

 

Coincidentally, the second and third-place winners, Ocean Park and Janfusun Fancyworld, also have Ferris wheel facilities. Among them, Janfusun Fancyworld’s Ferris wheel, standing 88 meters tall, offers a breathtaking view of the entire park and the Chianan Plain when reaching the highest point. Whether it's Valentine’s Day on Qixi Festival or the fireworks show on New Year’s Eve, the Ferris wheel often becomes the top dating choice for couples. It's clear that for couples, the Ferris wheel not only fulfills fantasies of romance but also symbolizes a love story like a ring.
