Fujin Riverside Wetland Nature Reserve
The Heilongjiang Fujin Riverside Wetland Nature Reserve was established in 1988, upgraded to a Jiamusi municipal-level nature reserve in 2000, and approved as a provincial-level nature reserve by the provincial government on May 12, 2008. The reserve is situated on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Songhua River, in the northern part of Fujin City; it borders Tongjiang City to the east, faces Suibin County across the main river channel to the north, neighbors the Huachuan Wetland Nature Reserve to the west, and connects to the south with the Songhua River embankment, adjacent to Shangjieji Town, downtown Fujin, Dayushu Town, Xiangyangchuan Town, and Erlongshan Town in Fujin City. The reserve extends in a strip-like shape along the southern bank of the Songhua River from east to west, with its closest point right next to the urban area and the farthest point about 45 kilometers away from the city. It stretches 84 kilometers from east to west, is up to 8 kilometers wide from north to south, has a perimeter of 218 kilometers, and covers a total area of 26,336 hectares. The reserve is divided into three functional zones: a core zone of 10,385 hectares, a buffer zone of 7,057 hectares, and an experimental zone of 8,894 hectares. The area features numerous rivers, lakes, and marshes, with wetlands covering 17,739 hectares, accounting for 67.4% of the total reserve area, making it a typical wetland-type nature reserve.
The protected objects within the reserve are inland wetland ecosystems and both aquatic and terrestrial organisms. The ecosystem here is intact, with rivers, lakes, and marshes spread throughout the reserve, along with vast grasslands. There are 289 species of vertebrates, as well as thousands of invertebrate, microbial, and lower plant species. The area is home to many rare bird and fish species, including 31 nationally rare and endangered animal species and 192 bird species. Among them, four species are listed as Class I nationally protected wild animals: the red-crowned crane, oriental white stork, white-naped crane, and golden eagle. There are also 27 species listed as Class II nationally protected wild animals, such as the white-naped crane, Eurasian spoonbill, grey crane, mandarin duck, whooper swan, Siberian sturgeon, kaluga sturgeon, otter, lynx, and snow hare. Additionally, there are 378 species of vascular plants belonging to 73 families, including wild soybean, lotus, and Utricularia vulgaris, which are listed as nationally key protected wild plants. The reserve boasts abundant wetland resources, providing a rich genetic gene pool for biodiversity among wildlife and plants.
Protecting these precious resources and the wetland ecosystems they depend on is of great significance for our economic development and human survival. The abundant wildlife and unique wetland ecosystems in the reserve create ideal habitats for animals, holding important conservation and scientific research value. The establishment and development of the Heilongjiang Fujin Riverside Wetland Nature Reserve play a major and far-reaching role in effectively protecting the region’s valuable natural resources and maintaining ecological balance, advancing wildlife conservation efforts in Heilongjiang Province and even across China. It also holds significant practical importance and long-term impact on promoting the coordinated development of Heilongjiang’s social economy and natural environment, as well as the construction of nature reserves in China.
