Shulan City Forest Park
The Shulan City Forest Park tourism area is a municipal-level economic development zone in Jilin Province. Established in May 1997 and located 2.5 kilometers from the city center, it covers a total area of 120 hectares, with green space accounting for over 90%. Bordered by Wanshou Mountain to the east, Nanjiu Mountain to the south, Hongshi Mountain to the west, and Beijiu Mountain to the north, it is known as the "Land of Nine Dragons." Historical records indicate that during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era, Emperor Qianlong visited this area during his eastern tour of Jilin and referred to it as the forty-third “woji” (a term for dense forest), namely the “Seqi Woji.” In the deep valley, there are three forest bathing areas (namely birch forest, broadleaf forest, and pine forest). Walking through these forest bathing areas can cleanse both body and mind, purify the heart muscles, promote metabolism, and boost immunity. These areas also offer multiple functions such as relaxation, exploration, learning, discovery, fitness, and emotional cultivation.
The valley area serves as a comprehensive venue, featuring an artificial lake and two facilities that provide a full range of services including dining, entertainment, accommodation, and bathing. Deep within the park, there is a ski slope and an ice-skating rink, as well as attractions such as a zoo, a natural bird forest, and a lotus pond. Visiting the forest park leaves you feeling refreshed and reluctant to leave.
The forest park houses the Haihui Temple, a zoo, a ski slope, forest bathing areas, and five pavilions of various sizes. It is a large-scale comprehensive garden integrating sightseeing, tourism, vacationing, and entertainment. Shulan City Forest Park is located in the southeastern part of Shulan City and is a national 2A-level tourist attraction in China. It lies 2.5 kilometers from the city center and 1 kilometer from the Wuhua Line first-class highway. The park entrance is built with marble, topped with yellow glazed tiles, and flanked by two pairs of white marble stone lions, presenting a grand and majestic appearance. Upon entering the gate, visitors are greeted by lush mountains and glistening lake waters, creating a refreshing atmosphere. The Haihui Temple is situated on the eastern shore of the man-made lake, nestled against the mountain and near the water, with a hundred-fruit orchard to the north and facing the artificial lake surface of the Sun-Moon Lake. The Mahavira Hall, the mountain gate, and the Heavenly King Hall have been completed, while the side halls and surrounding walls are under construction. The ski slope is located deep within the forest park, covering an area of 100,000 square meters, including 40,000 square meters of ski runs. It can accommodate 300 skiers at the same time. Since 2006, a swimming pool, water slides, and other aquatic amusement facilities have been added on the north side of the ski slope, attracting a large number of visitors.
The forest park also features eight scenic pavilions, two forest bathing areas, high-end hotels, small and medium-sized restaurants, and local snacks, providing visitors with a one-stop service for dining, accommodation, and entertainment.
The forest park is developing into a large-scale comprehensive garden integrating sightseeing, tourism, vacationing, and entertainment. It has become an oxygen-improving and ecologically-friendly green space in Shulan City, an ideal urban park that attracts tourists from all over, and a widely renowned destination for Buddhism and tourism.
