The Flying Train Sets Sail！Join Jimmy Liao on a Mini-Trip to Yilan

Taiwan’s first Jimmy Liao-themed square has been open since June last year, attracting over 140,000 visitors and receiving widespread praise and positive feedback from travelers. The Yilan County Government has now added two new art installations inspired by elements from Jimmy Liao’s picture books at Yilan Railway Station and Diudiodang Forest Square. From a distance, the tree-lined square in front of Yilan Railway Station resembles the quiet forest where the boy and girl stroll through in the picture book “The Starry Starry Night,” making the railway station appear as if it is hidden within a forest. Extending this concept, the exterior walls are wrapped in lush, green imagery from Jimmy Liao’s books, transforming Yilan Railway Station into a “railway station in the forest.” This adds vibrancy to the bustling station while also featuring a giraffe as the gatekeeper to welcome daily travelers.

 

The old town area of Yilan City has long been a gathering place for artisans and craftsmen. Over the course of history, various architectural complexes reflect the values and lifestyles demonstrated by different generations through traditional crafts, with the interplay of old and new cultures giving rise to the unique character of Yilan City’s old town culture. To allow travelers to deeply experience Yilan City’s rich cultural and historical atmosphere, the Yilan County Government has planned the “Follow Jimmy Liao on a Mini-Trip to Yilan” guided tour route. This connects important sites that carry memories of old Yilan, led by guides trained by the county government. Along the way, visitors will explore Yilan Railway Station, Diudiodang Forest Square, the Red Brick House, Yilan Xingkou, the Yilan County Tourism Service Center, the South Gate Old Prison, the Office-Keeping Memorial Hall, the Vascular Tissue Moat, Yilan Distillery, and the Yang Shifang Memorial Forest Park. Through this cultural corridor that blends tradition and modernity with a strong sense of nostalgia, visitors can see Yilan from a different perspective. Starting January 25th, the “Follow Jimmy Liao on a Mini-Trip to Yilan” guided tour service is available every Saturday and Sunday.
