Woman falls to her death in mountain valley while hiking on Dawu Mountain
At around 9 a.m. on the 11th, the Pingtung County Fire Bureau received a report from the public stating that a 50-year-old female hiker surnamed Gan had accidentally fallen over 30 meters down a valley while walking 1.1 kilometers along the trail on Beidawu Mountain in Taiwu Township. Due to poor weather conditions with thick fog in the mountains at the time, an air rescue helicopter was unable to take off. When rescuers arrived at the scene and pulled her up, she showed no obvious signs of life. “My wife just fell into the valley right before my eyes,” said her husband, surnamed Li, who was hiking with her. He reported the incident to local firefighters in a panicked voice. It is understood that the couple were both members of the Central Taiwan Wahua Mountain Friends Club, and a group of 24 people had traveled south to go hiking during the National Day holiday. The Yilan County Fire Department received a report around 7 p.m. that a group of 11 people had gone hiking on the Gaofeng Forest Road in Nanao Township early that morning. They were scheduled to descend by 5 p.m., but three men and one woman lost contact. The fire department dispatched search and rescue personnel and vehicles from the Nanao branch to assist.
Climber found with no signs of life after falling into valley in the Keilantekun Mountain Range
Another climber falls into a valley incident reported. This morning, the Taichung City Fire Department received a notice from the Yilan County Fire Department stating that a man surnamed Shi had accidentally fallen into a mountainous area while climbing the northern peak of Keilantekun Mountain. The fire department originally planned to dispatch a helicopter for rescue, but due to weather conditions, it could not take off. However, when a high-altitude guide went to check the site, they found that Mr. Shi had no signs of life. The Taichung City Fire Department explained that Mr. Shi was part of a group of seven hikers who were climbing the northern peak of Keilantekun Mountain. He fell approximately 200 meters down a valley at the 2.4 km mark on the Shengling Trail in Heping District. At the time, the team leader surnamed Wang quickly reported the incident. Upon receiving the report, Taichung dispatched six rescuers and also requested helicopter assistance. The fire department stated that two high-altitude guides hired by the hiking group arrived at the point where Mr. Shi had fallen into the valley and found that he had no signs of life.
Female hiker falls into valley on Dawu Mountain, found lifeless upon rescue

By the time she was rescued, she had sustained a head laceration and multiple fractures in her limbs, and was found to have no signs of life.
Police rescue successful: Hikers survive National Day ordeal in Ruifang
The Hupao Pond Ancient Trail is located in Daping, Shuangxi District, New Taipei City. It was historically a mountain pass connecting Daping in Shuangxi with Neidaxi in Yilan. Around 7:00 p.m. on the 9th, two hikers got lost in the area. Upon receiving the report, the Ruifang Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department immediately formed a search and rescue team with police, volunteer firefighters, and paramedics to carry out the rescue mission. Police stated that the two male hikers, who worked for the same company, had set off at 8:00 a.m. on the 9th from an ancient trail near Jilin Elementary School in Gongliao, accompanied by a colleague, heading toward Tai Ping’s Hupao Pond. Search and rescue for missing aircraft in Mt. Makalot involves heavy gear and a 4-day trek
An air force training aircraft has gone missing in the Mt. Makalot mountain range, at the border of Nantou, Hualien, and Kaohsiung! The Nantou County Fire Bureau stated that a Black Cat helicopter is currently conducting an aerial search, while firefighting and rescue personnel are on standby on the ground. Mt. Makalot is high and remote — hikers must trek for four days from the Dongpu trailhead in Xinyi Township to reach it. The Nantou County Fire Bureau noted that once the exact location of the missing training aircraft is confirmed, ground rescue personnel can proceed with a mountain search. Considering the long distance involved, rescuers may also be transported to nearby mountainous areas before beginning their trek. Mt. Makalot is located within Yushan National Park, with an elevation of 3,785 meters. It is considered a challenging route among mountaineers. The famous Makalot Traverse, which goes from the Dongpu trailhead to Yuli in Hualien, takes about seven to eight days to complete and requires ample physical strength and experience to undertake.
Hikers scale Mt. Baigushan; one man suffers ankle injury and is hospitalized
Five hikers from Hsinchu City were climbing Mt. Baigushan on the 20th. Around 9 p.m. that evening, one team member, a 63-year-old man surnamed Xiao, accidentally slipped and suffered an ankle injury, leaving him unable to walk. The group decided to retreat. Around 10 p.m., as they reached the end of the water conduit trail, Xiao, in pain from his injury and unable to walk, called for help. Transformation: 285 Students from Kang Chiao Climb the Hehuan Mountain Range
Kang Chiao Bilingual School is renowned for its diverse education. Kang Chiao Bilingual School students had previously summited Snow Mountain to receive graduation certificates in elementary school. This year, the school planned for eighth-grade students to climb Shimen Mountain, Hehuan North Peak, West Peak, East Peak, and Wufanaiwei Mountain within the Hehuan Mountain Range—routes that were more challenging in both distance and difficulty. Three hikers suffer bee stings during mountain climb, all recover after hospital treatment
A group of 20 hikers from the Taishan Hiking Club headed to the Huangdi Temple Scenic Area in Shiding District around 10 a.m. today (15th). Near the Xiaocukeng trailhead, two men and one woman were reportedly stung by hornets. The three were sent to Wanfang Hospital for emergency treatment and are conscious with no serious injuries. The Fourth Division of the Fire Department advised that when engaging in mountain activities, it’s best to wear long-sleeved clothing, long pants, and a hat, avoid wearing perfume or cosmetics, and if encountering hornets, stay calm and leave the area quickly. Do not swat or try to drive them away. If a beehive is found at home, do not attempt to remove it yourself—notify firefighters for assistance to prevent danger.
Over 100 participants join trail cleanup at Jiujiumfeng Hiking Trail
