Five hikers from Hsinchu City were climbing Mt. Baigushan on the 20th. Around 9 p.m. that evening, one team member, a 63-year-old man surnamed Xiao, accidentally slipped and suffered an ankle injury, leaving him unable to walk. The group decided to retreat. Around 10 p.m., as they reached the end of the water conduit trail, Xiao, in pain from his injury and unable to walk, called for help. His teammates carried him together to the last farmhouse cabin to await rescue. The Ren'ai Fire Brigade, led by Captain Chen Jiahong and comprising seven members, was dispatched for the rescue. They reached the injured hiker around midnight on the 21st and transported him to the trailhead by 1:43 a.m., where he was taken by ambulance to Puli Christian Hospital for emergency treatment. Fortunately, his life is not in danger.
