The Miaoli County Fire Bureau reported today that on the evening of the 14th, they received a report from the public about a 16-year-old vocational high school student surnamed Lin from Tai’an Township who had gotten lost while hiking. Rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to search the mountain. After two days and one night, the student managed to walk down the mountain alone. His parents, seeing their child safe and sound, burst into tears on the spot. The Lin family lives in Tai’an Township, and the student is of indigenous descent. His mother said that in the past, he had hiked alone in nearby mountainous areas, but this time he had gone up the mountain at around 5 a.m. on the 14th and had not been seen since the evening, which caused her great worry and fear. This couple, who live in Taichung, had originally planned to hike in Tai’an as well but ended up losing their way. 15 people from New Taipei went missing in the Xindian mountain area yesterday and remain unaccounted for to this day. Longzhong Network Company held an employee outing yesterday, during which 15 individuals hiked at Jiujiaoliao Mountain in Xindian District, New Taipei City. They were scheduled to descend by evening, but have not been seen since. Their families have been unable to reach them and reported the case to the police for help around 11 p.m. yesterday. Hiking in Shuiyang Forest: Man Suspected to Have Died After Falling Down a Slope
Two men went hiking in Shuiyang Forest, located at the border of Nantou and Chiayi yesterday. One of them is suspected to have fallen off a slope and died. The Chiayi County Fire Bureau mobilized 18 personnel to go up the mountain, where they found the body and will transport it down the mountain overnight. The Chiayi County Fire Bureau explained that Shuiyang Forest is a barrier lake formed after the 921 Earthquake. The local cedar forest died after being soaked in the lake water, creating a white forest of dead trees. Due to its beautiful scenery, it often attracts hikers. Chen, a 52-year-old man, and Pan, a 46-year-old man, went hiking in Shuiyang Forest yesterday. Chen, 52, is suspected to have felt dizzy and fallen down a slope. His companion reported the incident to the Chiayi County Fire Bureau, which then transferred the case to the Nantou County Government Fire Bureau to dispatch rescuers. Due to poor communication in the mountainous area and the inability of the informant to clearly specify the location of the incident, personnel from the Chiayi County Fire Bureau, Zhushan Police Precinct, and the Forestry Bureau’s Fenchihu Work Station, among others, set out in two groups at 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. today to provide support.

Central Taiwan plans to introduce an autonomous ordinance requiring hikers to carry positioning devices

Mute man falls into stream during mountain climb, body found at Da Gui Waterfall
Two mute men from New Taipei City had planned to hike the scenic Xiaozhuiyu Ancient Trail in Ruifang on the morning of the 4th. Shen, a 39-year-old man, is suspected to have slipped and fallen into a stream. Rescue teams searched the mountains for two consecutive nights, and on the morning of the 6th, they finally discovered Shen’s body in a deep pool 100 meters below Da Gui Waterfall. The cause of death is still under investigation by police and prosecutors. The friend surnamed Lin who reported the case told police that at around 8 a.m. on the 4th, the two entered the trail from the Xikou entrance and began climbing the Banpin Mountain cliffs. At around 11 a.m., he had to drop out due to exhaustion and lost contact with Shen, so he went down the mountain on his own and waited by his car for his friend to show up. Unexpectedly, Shen still hadn’t appeared by evening, and he didn’t answer phone calls. Lin quickly asked passersby to help report the incident. Police and firefighters formed a rescue team and searched through the night. At around 2 a.m. on the 5th, they found Shen’s backpack, cellphone, slippers, hat, and dry food on the shore 100 meters below Da Gui Waterfall, about an hour’s walk from the trailhead.
