Another climber falls into a valley incident reported. This morning, the Taichung City Fire Department received a notice from the Yilan County Fire Department stating that a man surnamed Shi had accidentally fallen into a mountainous area while climbing the northern peak of Keilantekun Mountain. The fire department originally planned to dispatch a helicopter for rescue, but due to weather conditions, it could not take off. However, when a high-altitude guide went to check the site, they found that Mr. Shi had no signs of life.
The Taichung City Fire Department explained that Mr. Shi was part of a group of seven hikers who were climbing the northern peak of Keilantekun Mountain. He fell approximately 200 meters down a valley at the 2.4 km mark on the Shengling Trail in Heping District. At the time, the team leader surnamed Wang quickly reported the incident. Upon receiving the report, Taichung dispatched six rescuers and also requested helicopter assistance.
The fire department stated that two high-altitude guides hired by the hiking group arrived at the point where Mr. Shi had fallen into the valley and found that he had no signs of life. They also found that the ropes they had were not long enough to retrieve his body. In addition, strong winds and heavy rain were battering the mountain area, making the weather extremely harsh. As a result, the helicopter still could not take off or land. After considering the safety of everyone on-site, the rescuers asked the hikers to return to the 369 Mountain Hut and wait for a rescue team to arrive before proceeding with further recovery efforts.
