Six hikers lost in Shanlinxi Forest; rescued by police and firefighters
A group of six hikers — including a young man surnamed Hsu — from Kaohsiung and Taipei entered the mountains via Shanlinxi in Zhushan Township, Nantou County, on the 6th. They were planning to visit the Shuiyang Forest scenic area deep in the mountains near the border of Nantou and Chiayi counties but got lost between Luku Mountain and Shitou Mountain due to heavy fog. Nantou County Fire Bureau received a distress call yesterday afternoon. A rescue team composed of members from the Lugu Fire Station and police officers was formed to search the mountains. The hikers were successfully located this morning and evacuated safely.
Six hikers reported missing after rescue request
The Nantou County Police Department’s duty command center received a report at 1:20 p.m. today stating that a group of six hikers had gotten lost and were stranded in the mountainous area of Lugu Township. Police and firefighters are currently conducting a search. The Nantou County Fire Bureau, notified by police, dispatched an eight-person team from the Lugu Fire Station to carry out the rescue mission. Authorities believe the six hikers were heading toward the Shuiyang Forest area but got lost and became trapped between Luku Mountain and Shitou Mountain. The fire department stated that due to poor communication signals in the mountainous region, they have been unable to establish contact with the group and have been missing for nearly two hours. 1031206

Over the 34 years since 1980, Tibet has received a total of 1,679 foreign mountaineering teams comprising 17,248 individuals, generating an economic income of 323.62 million yuan. Tibet is the core area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an average altitude of over 4,000 meters. It is home to five peaks above 8,000 meters, more than 70 peaks above 7,000 meters, and even more peaks above 6,000 meters, offering uniquely favorable conditions for mountaineering activities. In recent years, Tibet has continuously adapted to new developments in mountaineering and has made beneficial explorations in the growth of the mountaineering industry. At present, the foundation and momentum for the industrialization of mountaineering have begun to take shape, with both economic and social benefits steadily increasing. The sports authorities in Tibet have intensified efforts to popularize amateur mountaineering, organizing two mountaineering events annually in spring and autumn.
Hikers Stung by Bees on Mountain Trail, 6 Sent to Hospital
The Taipei City Fire Department received a report around 10 a.m. that hikers on a mountain trail in Lane 105, Pingjing Street, were attacked by a swarm of bees, with six people rushed to hospital in critical but conscious condition. The department said it dispatched ambulances to the scene near the mountain trail in Lane 105, Pingjing Street, close to Section 3, Zhishan Road, in Shilin District, after receiving the report. Man beaten to death while hiking; female companion forcibly taken away
According to China News Service, in Foshan, Guangdong, at around 1:00 p.m. today (November 30), a man was found lying dead on the hiking trail at Zijin Park in Longshan, Shunde. Eyewitnesses said the man and his female companion were beaten to death by two other men during the hike, while the woman was forcibly taken away. The Shunde police have since launched an investigation. “The woman didn’t shout for help, and we couldn’t hear what they were saying. It seemed strange, but no one dared to step in and help,” said Mr. Zeng, who witnessed the woman being taken away. Shortly after the motorcycle started and drove off, an elderly man came running down the hiking trail and told people, “There’s a man who’s been beaten to death by two other men up there, and the woman with him was dragged away.” Hearing this, everyone immediately ran up the trail and found a man wearing a light yellow shirt and black pants lying face down on the ground.

She was found at 5:14 p.m., suffering from a fracture and multiple bruises, and was urgently sent to hospital for treatment.

Taitung: A group of 129 hikers from Kaohsiung visited the Dulan Mountain Trail in Taitung on the 22nd. A woman in her 60s went missing. Rescue personnel found her body on the 27th on a cliff approximately 200 meters deep. Due to the nearly 80-degree slope, rescue was not possible, and the body was eventually lifted by an air force helicopter. Preliminary investigation suggests the woman fell from the steep slope.
Man Falls off Mountain Trail, Rescued by Helicopter
A man surnamed Hong was hiking on Mount Baigudashan today when he accidentally fell down a slope, sustaining a head injury. Upon receiving the report, the Nantou County Fire Bureau requested a helicopter to transport the man down the mountain for medical treatment. The 45-year-old Mr. Hong, a resident of Tainan City, was hiking on Mount Baigudashan at the border of Taichung City and Nantou County with two male friends when he fell about 10 meters down a slope. After being rescued by his friends, Mr. Hong was found to have lacerations on his face and head, prompting them to call for help and request medical evacuation. The Nantou County Fire Bureau received the report at 9:06 a.m. and asked the National Airborne Service Corps under the Ministry of the Interior to dispatch a helicopter to lift the injured man. The bureau also directed Mr. Hong and the others to head to the Guitar Camp at the Southeast Peak of Mount Baigudashan to rendezvous with the helicopter. According to the county fire bureau, the rescue helicopter successfully airlifted the injured man at 11:20 a.m. and landed at the Training Center of the Ministry of the Interior’s Fire Agency in Zhushan Township at 11:50 a.m. The injured man was then transported to Zhushan Show Chwan Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. 1031126

The course includes a 90-kilometer stretch with an average gradient of 7%, and the final 10 kilometers feature slopes as steep as nearly 30%. Riders ascend through the spectacular Taroko Gorge — one of the few routes in the world that achieves such an extreme elevation gain over a relatively short distance.
