New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu and his wife, Katherine Chu, went to Wuhua Elementary School in Sanchong District to cast their votes on the morning of the 29th. The couple, both wearing blue shirts, publicly “showed affection” and said that the first thing they would do after the election was to have coffee with his wife; opponent Yu Shyi-kun voted at Fuhsing Vocational High School yesterday in casual attire and said that the first thing he wanted to do after the election was to go mountain climbing.
Eric Chu and Katherine Chu, who wore matching outfits on the night before the election, once again coordinated in blue shirts yesterday. At 10 a.m., they walked hand-in-hand into the polling station, looking relaxed. Many local women rushed up to shake hands with Eric Chu, while others quickly took out their phones to capture the moment.
With a smile on his face, Eric Chu said that during the eight-day campaign trail, seeing people leisurely sipping coffee made him quite envious. “The first thing after the election is to find a shop with my wife and enjoy a good cup of coffee.”
“It’s not bad for an old married couple to show some public affection,” Katherine Chu said generously. She added that their daily life is also quite romantic and that the bond between the couple remains as strong as ever. She then spoke with tenderness, mentioning that her husband has been under heavy pressure managing both government and campaign duties, more than before, but that it’s all part of the job.
Yu Shyi-kun arrived at around 9 a.m. yesterday and was accompanied by DPP New Taipei City Party Branch Director Luo Zhizheng and others to vote at Fuhsing Vocational High School. He wore a shirt and jeans in a casual outfit, and many supporters who noticed he was using the same polling station rushed to shake hands and take photos with him.
Yu Shyi-kun specifically expressed gratitude to his family for their support. He said that his eldest son quit his job to fully assist in the campaign alongside his wife, while his younger son told him, “I’ll handle the money, Dad, you just focus on campaigning!” This warmed his heart. His wife, who has taken care of the household for many years, is his biggest pillar of support, allowing him to serve in public office without worries. Having long had the habit of hiking, he said the first thing he wants to do after the election is to go mountain climbing.
Afterwards, Yu Shyi-kun went to Xiulang Elementary School to accompany Democratic Progressive Party Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen to vote. Upon her arrival, Tsai, who enjoys high popularity, was immediately surrounded by supporters eager to shake hands and take photos. It took nearly five minutes to walk just a few meters. A member of the public surnamed Chen said, “I’ve been waiting for over two hours just to see Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen.”
