A hiker surnamed Wang and a friend were climbing one of Taiwan’s “One Hundred Peaks,” Gan Zhuo Wan Mountain, when Wang slipped and nearly fell off a cliff. His 20-kilogram backpack and glasses tumbled down the mountain. Suffering from over 600-degree myopia, Wang was unable to continue climbing up or down and called for rescue from the fire department. It took the police and firefighters four days to reach the mountain area on foot, and this morning (the 10th), they successfully delivered the glasses and are now on their way back.
The Ren’ai Fire Department stated that hiker Wang surnamed Wang called for help around 10 a.m. on the 7th, reporting that his glasses and gear had fallen down the mountain and asking whether someone could be sent to deliver the glasses. Upon receiving the report, three officers set out on foot to climb the mountain that same noon.
Due to treacherous mountain paths, unclear positioning, and persistent rain and fog, the officers dispatched another three-person team the next day and also requested helicopter assistance for rescue. However, due to poor weather conditions, the helicopter couldn’t proceed. As a result, the officers sent another three-person team at noon on the 9th to climb again. Over the course of four days, a total of three teams comprising nine officers and forestry personnel were mobilized to search the mountain. They finally located hiker Wang surnamed Wang and met him on the morning of the 10th, handing over the glasses and completing the most challenging “delivery” mission.
The officers revealed that if the descent goes smoothly, they are expected to return to Puli by the evening at the earliest, but this still depends on the mountain weather conditions. If it gets too late, they may set up camp in the mountains for safety reasons and return via the Wujie Forest Road the next day. All personnel are currently safe. Hiker Wang, who had slipped earlier, has minor abrasions on his body but is otherwise unharmed.
