Southeast Net of mainland China reported that this year’s Dragon Boat Festival mini-break coincided with International Children's Day on June 1, making short-distance family trips a dominant choice and injecting vitality into what is usually a quiet tourism season for the Dragon Boat Festival. Medium-distance travel was also popular, with Taiwan and South Korea routes being especially favored, but Southeast Asia faced a challenging period, resulting in a lukewarm tourism market. Southeast Net learned from travel agencies that the Dragon Boat Festival mini-break, overlapping with Children's Day, turned into a family-oriented travel hotspot. Huang Yanling, manager of Zhangzhou C&D International Travel Agency, said that June 1 was mainly about short-distance travel, particularly family trips. The recommended products were all short-haul, and travel agencies replaced rushed sightseeing or theme park visits with “theme + experience” packages, adding more fun and uniqueness. In addition, the warmer weather has also made water-based routes particularly popular, becoming a top recommendation for the Dragon Boat Festival.

Many first-time participants remarked that they had no idea their hometown was so beautiful! The chairman of the Zhutang Sports Association, Lin Junxi, said that to encourage fitness for all, the event was held during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday to rally local residents for a parent-child bike ride. The round-trip route covered approximately 14 kilometers, with participation from various sectors including County Councilor Wu Shujuan and the Farmers' Association Director Zhan Guangxin. Whether on mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrid bikes, or ladies’ bikes, all participating families enjoyed a slow-paced, fulfilling day. They assembled at Cihang Temple, pedaled through rural farmland, and arrived at the Jiulong Big Banyan by the Zhuoshui River—claimed to be the largest banyan tree in the country.

On the 30th, young moms from the Shulin Mommy & Baby Club in New Taipei City brought a group of 4 to 7-year-old children to visit the Shulin Police Precinct. The precinct used methods such as showing videos and hosting a quiz with prizes to educate the kids about crime prevention, making the children—who got to eat, play, and receive gifts—extremely happy. When the Shulin Police Precinct introduced its police weapons and equipment, the children innocently asked questions like, "Do you have cannons?" and "Where are the tanks?" These questions made the explaining officers burst into laughter as they clarified, "This is a police station; we don’t have those weapons here. Those kinds of weapons belong to the military!" The precinct also let the children try on bulletproof vests, hold police rifles, and even take a ride on a police motorcycle. The kids exclaimed, "So cool!! I want to be a police officer and catch bad guys when I grow up!"

"Let children learn through play, grow in joy, and unleash their infinite potential..." — parents have surely heard these phrases countless times. But how exactly can we achieve this? What’s the best way to help our kids? Parents rack their brains and gather all kinds of information, yet often overlook the importance of their own involvement. Taiwan is currently embracing a new type of game that has long been popular abroad — one that combines elements like brain stimulation, interaction, exploration, and immersive scenarios. It’s something many may not yet be familiar with: family board games. There are already numerous board games designed specifically for young children, both locally and internationally. Examples include *Ugly Dolls* and *German Heart Attack*, which blend storytelling with quick reflexes; *Speed Stacking Cups* and *Kitty Stack*, which nurture visual thinking and spatial awareness; as well as *ThinkFun Color Code*, which promotes the development of both left and right brain functions; and *Alice's Memories*, which evolves through story puzzles and storytelling. The examples mentioned above are just a tiny fraction of what "family board games" have to offer. These games can significantly enhance children’s hand-eye coordination, pattern recognition, reaction speed, arithmetic skills, and more. Parents can even use board games to observe and understand their children — not just in terms of learning progress or sensory integration, but most importantly, to gain insight into what their kids are thinking right now.

Do you understand the ocean? Taiwan is surrounded by sea on all sides, a typical island nation. Its internal waters (waters extending from the baseline toward the land) and territorial sea (waters extending 12 nautical miles from the baseline) cover an area of 58,797 square kilometers, far exceeding the land area of 36,192 square kilometers (source: Coast Guard Administration and Wikipedia). Yet, the public remains quite unfamiliar with the ocean that surrounds us. In our daily lives, beyond seafood culture, can we also build a high-quality marine culture of our own? To this end, the Marine National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the MNPH) has been hosting the “Month-by-Month Love the Sea – Marine Environment Education Activities” every month starting February 1st. Through conservation-focused environmental education games and DIY activities, the program aims to deliver marine conservation concepts in an educational yet entertaining and easy-to-understand way.
