Promoting fitness for all starts from childhood. On the 2nd, Chiayi City’s Jiuhua Mountain Dizang Temple hosted the Dizang Cup Parent-Child Public Welfare Fitness Games and Baby Crawling Fun Competition, with 120 families participating. The event featured baby crawling and toddler fitness challenges. Mayor Huang Min-hui encouraged parents to help their children develop exercise habits, emphasizing that a strong physique is one of the indicators of national strength.
The Miaoli County Government has been investing heavily in education. Following the success of the Gulliver Human Body Art Exploration Museum, from the 14th to the 23rd, it is bringing in the Paper Windmill Dinosaur Art Exploration Museum to create the “Magistrate Ah Hong’s Dinosaur Classroom” at Zhunan Sports Park. This event combines art, pop culture, and creativity, featuring 51 life-sized dinosaurs that existed just before their extinction 65 million years ago, as well as many dinosaur exhibits infused with artistic and creative elements for interactive fun. Peng Fuyuan, head of the Education Department, noted that the Gulliver Human Body Art Exploration Museum in March attracted over 100,000 local residents who queued up for the experience. The upcoming Dinosaur Art Exploration Museum, set within a two-hectare park, will feature seven themed zones: the Paper Windmill Dinosaur Family, Giant Dinosaurs, Archaeopteryx Theater, Artistic Creative Dinosaurs, Cute Dinosaurs, Dinosaur Bookstore, and Eco-Friendly Dinosaur Eggs. These zones aim to satisfy the curiosity and desire for knowledge and creativity of both adults and children.
On a certain day, the Council of Hakka Affairs held the 2010 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival – A Family Wonderland event at the Daxi Flower Sea Farm in Taoyuan, attracting over 20,000 visitors. Adults and children alike sat, lay down, enjoyed the shade, or wandered through the sea of blossoms, making the most of the rare holiday. Due to the overwhelming turnout, the entire Taiwan Route 7 was heavily congested—even Council of Hakka Affairs Chairperson Huang Yuzhen and Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Zhiyang were stuck in traffic and almost didn’t make it to the stage on time. Children’s favorite “Blackie” (Zhang Shanwei) hosted the day’s theme, “A Family Wonderland,” joined by MOMO TV’s Peachy Sister, Jelly Sister, and Caramel Brother. The atmosphere was lively as kids and adults sang and danced to tung blossom-themed performances, perfectly capturing the festive spirit of the festival. Many families came specifically to see the tung blossoms, but interestingly, quite a few looked up to see giant “tung blossoms” floating about, which seemed increasingly strange—
Insects have short lifespans, and insect specimens are often available. The National Chung Hsing University Insect Museum uses these specimens to make necklaces and keychains that shine even brighter than jewelry. Visitors can also DIY colorful butterfly cards using butterfly wings — a perfect activity for family trips.

The biggest spring event in Yilan is the Green Expo, which runs from now until May 9th at Wuzhao Pit in Su’ao. This year’s theme, “Dreams of the Earth,” features something new: Taiwan’s largest garden maze. It’s not just for looking at — you can actually dive into the sea of flowers and play hide-and-seek among them. Wu Ming-feng, head of the Livestock Division at Yilan County Government’s Agriculture Department, explained that in previous years, the expo entrance was decorated with large landscape displays. However, due to Typhoon Bama last year, the area behind Wuzhao Pit was buried under a massive amount of soil and rocks, making it impossible to build the main pavilion. As a result, the large landscape and the main pavilion have switched places, which has become a unique feature of this year’s exhibition. The disaster-stricken area has been transformed into a dreamlike maze, enlarged 4100 times based on Picasso’s famous painting “The Dream.” Flower walls and potted plants serve as the “paint,” with the slightly green right side of the face made from sage, the pink right hand from African marigolds, and the bright red sofa represented by begonias. A total of 130,000 plants were used to create this 82-meter-long and 64-meter-wide masterpiece, making it the first of its kind in Taiwan. Unless you hear the explanation, it’s hard to imagine that this flower sea was once ravaged by a landslide.
Taiwanese loquats originated in Mòzǎidūn, located by the Toupiàn Stream at the entrance to the Taiping Mountain area. Due to global warming, loquat cultivation has shifted to higher altitudes, making Mòzǎidūn no longer suitable for growing loquats. Recently, it has been transformed into a beautiful, rustic farm. The simple farm truly lives up to its name, featuring a over-50-year-old earthen house as its main structure, along with a log-built pavilion, rocking chairs, rustic pottery, and a garden full of uniquely shaped old lychee trees. The farm’s owner, Ma Ziqing, a landscape designer, originally rented this land just as a nursery for gardening plants. Unexpectedly, it became the realization of his dream garden. Ma Ziqing says that Mòzǎidūn was abandoned for about 30 years, which helped preserve its pristine ecosystem. Visitors can bring their children here to feed goats, run around, play in the water, search for antlions, and even do DIY projects like making stone pen holders and unpainted ceramic art. During the loquat season, they can also enjoy loquat-themed meal sets.

Cruise travel is gaining popularity in the Taiwan market, and the age group of travelers enthusiastic about maritime holidays is getting younger year by year. This trend has attracted many internationally renowned cruise companies to enter Taiwan and compete for berthing opportunities. The world-famous Royal Caribbean Cruises’ luxury ship, the Legend of the Seas, after active efforts, will dock at Kaohsiung Port early next year, picking up passengers from Taiwan for overseas travel and vacation. The inaugural voyage is scheduled to depart from Kaohsiung Port on February 11 next year. In response to the arrival of the large ship Legend of the Seas, multiple travel agencies including Cola, Phoenix, Masterpiece, and Laureate Travel have jointly formed a consortium center and, together with Royal Caribbean Cruises, have designed and launched the “Legend of the Seas ~ Vietnam, Hainan & Hong Kong Gourmet Journey,” with itinerary options of 5 or 6 days. To encourage travelers to plan their holidays early, several operators have also jointly launched an “Early Bird Special” with pre-order discount offers to capture the market.
Six-year-old Chen Xuan, together with her father Chen Shouzhong, completed an epic 2,100-kilometer cycling journey from Xi'an to Turpan over two and a half months, setting a global first as the youngest child to cycle the Silk Road. The original plan was to cover 2,700 kilometers, but Chen Shouzhong adjusted the route in real time based on his daughter’s safety, stamina, and adaptability, prioritizing risk management. In the end, they cycled 2,100 kilometers, with the remaining sections covered by bus, car, and tractor to avoid particularly rugged or hazardous stretches. From Xi'an through Gansu, conquering the Gobi dunes The trip began in Xi'an, the historic ancient capital of Shaanxi Province, traversed the Loess Plateau and Hexi Corridor in Gansu, and reached the sparsely populated Turpan in Xinjiang, overcoming scorching heat and challenging Gobi dunes.
The newly opened Sun Moon Lake Hotel is built right by the lake, offering beautiful scenery and a convenient location without an unaffordable price tag — making it a great new option. Especially with the recent launch of its summer package, it’s quite a good deal for families of four planning a trip together. The Sun Moon Lake Hotel has a total of 106 rooms, 80% of which offer lake views. Among the most popular classic room types are the “lake view” and the “villa,” each with 14 pyeong (approximately 46 square meters) of space featuring beds with just the right firmness and a Japanese Zen-style tatami room — perfect for families with children. Each bathroom comes with a large bathtub and a window with a view of the lake, offering different scenery day and night, creating a very romantic atmosphere. In addition, the hotel offers a summer package that combines gourmet dining with local specialty activities, ideal for a fun family getaway. The package includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner, and a selection of refined tea and snacks. Each room also comes with a complimentary DIY pottery voucher and a choice of one activity from three options (A. Sun Moon Lake boat cruise ticket & commemorative mug / B. Crescent Bay bike ride / C. scenic cable car tour). Taking the lake view villa as an example, the price starts at NT$2,500 per person for a group of four on weekdays. This package is available from now until the end of September (not applicable during the September 11 Million People Lake Crossing event).
Spend the summer vacation exploring Nantou’s Puli and Yuchi with your kids, engaging in a wide variety of DIY activities. It’s a great way to learn while creating something with your own hands—something you can hold in your palm and feel proud of. Puli is a wonderland of ever-changing parent-child DIY experiences, where you can make everything from paper crafts and flower petal jams to honey cakes and mushrooms. Typically, enthusiastic farm owners first give a tour of the premises, teaching children about local flora and fauna before guiding them in kneading, mixing, and stirring by hand. After about an hour, your warm, handmade creation is complete, leaving both adults and children thoroughly entertained. ■ Explore an Ecological Farm and Experience the Buzz of Bees If describing a politician’s frenzy as “a dance of demons” implies chaos, then walking through a tunnel buzzing with millions of bees feels like: a roar of hardworking bees—truly impressive.
If you’re a family of four traveling from Taipei to Puli and Sun Moon Lake, driving is the most convenient option. For a 2-day, 1-night stay for four people, staying at homestays such as Crescent Villa or Shuiyue Mountain Villa in Puli starts at around NT$3,000 on weekdays. If you choose Qingjingze, a homestay located near Sun Moon Lake, the price is even better, starting at NT$2,880 — great value. Most homestays only include breakfast, with other meals and activities at your own expense. If you factor in food, accommodation, and DIY activities, the total is estimated to be around NT$7,000–8,000.
