During this year’s Qingming and May Day holidays, family travel saw a significant surge in popularity, with ocean-themed attractions across Shandong Province emerging as top travel destinations.
According to a CCTV “2014 May Day Holiday Family Travel Popularity Ranking” survey, the Qingdao Underwater World attraction in Shandong ranked among the top ten, coming in sixth place. Over the three-day May Day break, Qingdao Underwater World welcomed 49,000 visitors, marking a 10% year-on-year increase.
Currently, other sizable indoor ocean-themed attractions in Shandong Province include: Qingdao Polar Ocean World, located near the scenic Qingdao waterfront and representing one of the city’s major tourism projects in recent years; Yantai Penglai Marine Polar World, which was once the world’s largest and earliest indoor ocean theme park; and Quancheng Marine Polar World, which received 105,000 visitors over the three-day May Day holiday, setting a new record high.
