After visiting Todai-ji, exit and turn left, then follow the path up to the elevated Nigatsu-do. Right after leaving Todai-ji, you’ll see on your left a large torii gate marked with “Shodo-in Shrine,” which leads toward Nigatsu-do. Most torii gates are either in their natural stone/wood color or painted a vivid orange, but I once saw a deep indigo-blue one at Naha’s Kamegawa Shrine in Okinawa—it had a very oceanic vibe, quite unique.

The Taichung 3D Light Sculpture Art Exhibition, planned by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau, has been met with widespread acclaim since its launch. The city government has decided to extend the exhibition through the end of this year. Starting now, every Saturday evening from 7 to 9 PM, one show will be staged on the hour at the Taichung Prefectural Hall. Visitors can enjoy the classic version of the nation’s first 3D light sculpture performance, created through animated video projections.
