Breathtaking — Taichung's 3D Light Sculpture Exhibition Gains Popularity, Extended Through Year-End

The Taichung 3D Light Sculpture Art Exhibition, planned by the Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau, has been met with widespread acclaim since its launch. The city government has decided to extend the exhibition through the end of this year. Starting now, every Saturday evening from 7 to 9 PM, one show will be staged on the hour at the Taichung Prefectural Hall. Visitors can enjoy the classic version of the nation’s first 3D light sculpture performance, created through animated video projections. Starting December 14, a Christmas edition will be introduced, with an additional show scheduled for New Year’s Eve. Fans of light sculpture shows should seize the opportunity.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that the "Glorious Century 3D Light Sculpture Show" was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Taichung Prefectural Hall. This 3D architectural projection uses the historic facade of the prefectural building as a screen. High-lumen projectors cast specially made animated images point-by-point onto the structure, accompanied by synchronized sound and lighting effects, delivering a stunning audiovisual spectacle that blurs the line between reality and illusion on the urban streetscape.

The 16-minute film features dozens of elaborately crafted, dazzling scenes and hundreds of visual transitions, delicately narrating the story of the century-old prefectural hall and vividly recreating the charm of old Taichung Prefecture.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that the film is divided into four segments. The first depicts the humanistic charm of the agricultural era a century ago; the second covers the history of the 1913 blueprint of the prefectural hall designed by Japanese architect Morioka Matsunosuke; the third transitions into Taiwan’s retrocession period, using vintage photos to revive the joyful atmosphere of the time; and the final segment uses vibrant lights and tech-infused sound mixing to symbolize Taichung’s dynamic future.
