Taichung Scenic Restaurant: Tiao Gao Dan Yi
A Beautiful Scenic Restaurant in Taichung: Tiao Gao Dan Yi Taichung’s Daking area recently welcomed a lovely scenic restaurant named “Tiao Gao Dan Yi.” I find these four characters a bit tricky to remember, and if not for using the Cangjie input method, I might not have been able to type the full name either... I saw netizens sharing photos of this “Tiao Gao Dan Yi” online. Not only were the views spectacular, but the food also received positive reviews, and it wasn’t too far from home—so I went that very day.

That day, my GPS had me circling around near “Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology” for quite a while...
Later, I called a friend who had already arrived. He told me to drive past the main gate of “Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology,” then make the first right uphill turn (there’s a sign for Lane 700 at the intersection), and follow the signs from there... After ascending the slope, it took about three minutes following the signs to reach the place. “Tiao Gao Dan Yi” has its own parking lot, and the restaurant is located on the floor above the parking area...

Probably because it had just opened and it was a weekday, there weren’t many customers, and some seemed to be friends and family of the owners showing support...

“Tiao Gao Dan Yi” features a quasi-raw-concrete architectural style, and the interior decor is minimal. The retro clock in the corner is one of the more eye-catching decorations...

There was live piano music... an electronic version!!!

Stepping out from the side pathway onto the terrace, you’re greeted by a beautifully designed curved glass floor-to-ceiling window... However, the outdoor tables and chairs were all stacked up, which slightly detracted from the aesthetics...

Although it was only 6 p.m., the night sky was already quite beautiful...

There’s also an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy elevated views of the night scenery...

Since Beitun isn’t a commercial district, the nightscape isn’t particularly dense, but even so, it’s quite lovely to behold.

Going further up, there’s also a private room area suitable for small group gatherings...

This place is perfect for photoshoots.

This terrace is purely for night view appreciation, with no dining seating available...

Our little Cherry now understands more as she grows up. When we tell her to sit on the chair because mommy wants to take a photo, she obediently sits still...

The menu... it’s all handwritten, and it looks so simple.

Salad – Grilled Miyazaki pork served with balsamic vinegar, along with lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. It’s sweet and tangy, quite appetizing...

Bread – Round baguette served with vinaigrette. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, really delicious... (but best eaten while warm!)

Soup – Tomato soup with simple vegetables and squid. It was okay.

Golden Soft-Shell Crab with Red Sauce Spaghetti – NT$420. I love soft-shell crab spaghetti, but I’m not a big fan of red sauce... This dish had plenty of clams in addition to the soft-shell crabs, and little Cherry really enjoyed it...

The soft-shell crabs were fresh, tasty, and well-seasoned... you can even eat the shells.

The noodles were a bit softer than I prefer, lacking distinct chewiness in the center, and I’m not a fan of red sauce either... (yes, mentioned that already, how many times must I say it? XD). But this level of softness is more suitable for kids, and red sauce is usually kid-friendly.

Charcoal-Grilled Squid Tube with Cuttlefish Risotto – NT$460. We intentionally ordered one pasta and one rice dish to share...

The squid tube was quite good, with a slightly charred flavor, soft and chewy. Little Cherry probably ate about a third of one...

The risotto had a nice bite to it and actually contained real cuttlefish ink. Be warned—it will stain your teeth black, making it unsuitable for couples in love ordering together... (though perhaps that’s also a test of true love!). I thought the risotto outshone the spaghetti.

Oriental BBQ Pork Ribs – NT$290. These were tender and flavorful, and we all enjoyed them.

Seasonal Fruit Tea - $200 TWD. Unlike most commercial fruit teas that often use tea bags, "Tiao Gao Dan Yi" uses actual tea leaves. However, the fruity flavor is not very pronounced, and the tea aroma is also a bit muted. It’s not bad, but this fruit tea might be a matter of personal taste...
For a scenic restaurant, "Tiao Gao Dan Yi" performs well in terms of food. However, due to fewer visitors, the outdoor tables and chairs are all stacked up, making it less photogenic... Not far from Taichung City, there's such a scenic dining spot. Although its night view can't rival Wang Gao Liao's, it's still worth a visit for those interested.
