Liuhao Wetland Park

Liuhao Wetland Park is located in Liuhao Town, Liaoyang County, Liaoyang City, situated in the middle section of the Liuhao River. It is a provincial-level wetland park with a planned total area of 66.66 hectares and a wetland coverage rate of 74.65%. The area lies on the alluvial plain of the Lower Liaohe River subsidence zone, featuring higher terrain in the northeast and lower in the southwest, with an average elevation between 8 and 18 meters. The terrain is flat and open, with fertile soil. The Liuhao River is a first-level tributary of the Taizi River Plain Area, originating from the suburbs of Liaoyang City. It stretches 33.9 kilometers in length, with a drainage area of 508.8 square kilometers. The river channel is gentle, the riverbed is stable, and historically there have been no major flood peaks.

Liuhao Town enjoys convenient transportation. County-level Highway 003 runs across the entire town, connecting with National Highway 202 and the Shenyang–Dalian Expressway, providing direct access to nearby cities such as Liaoyang, Anshan, Shenyang, and Dalian. Within the town, three vertical and one horizontal roadways form the main traffic network, ensuring asphalt roads reach every village. In 2016, a newly built road extending northeast from Anha Road leads directly to the wetland park.

The Liuhao River Wetland Project was one of the 13 key provincial government-funded projects for water pollution control in the Taizi River in 2012. The park is home to 233 species of rare animals and 103 species of rare plants. The natural scenery is beautiful. The Liuhao Town government implemented a water purification project, starting to plant lotus flowers, reeds, and wild rice here, with the lotus pond covering an area of over 60,000 square meters. In summer and autumn, tens of thousands of lotus blossoms bloom competitively, creating a stunning scenic view.

In 2013, construction began on the Liuhao Wetland Project, planned by Liuhao Town with an area of 2,000 mu. The construction covered an area of 70,000 square meters, including 20,000 square meters of vegetation area. The project has now been fully completed. Currently, the water quality of the Liuhao River has been effectively purified, and the quality of the rice grown in the tens of thousands of mu of paddy fields it irrigates has approached or reached green product standards.

In 2014, Liuhao Town developed tourism projects and planted 30,000 ornamental trees here, as well as raised more than 10 species of rare birds such as swans and wild geese. A large amusement park with 14 entertainment facilities and a 1,700-square-meter water-based dining and entertainment center were also newly built. In addition, the water activities at Liuhao Wetland Park have expanded to include jet skis, electric boats, and zip lines. This has made the area a great destination for leisure and tourism.

In early 2016, Liuhao Town further expanded the wetland, adding 42 hectares that include features such as river islands, fishing gardens, rare bird parks, rural style exhibition halls, speedboat cruises, and more, making it a new summer leisure spot for residents of Liaoyang County and surrounding areas. Nearly 10,000 people visit the wetland for sightseeing every day, enjoying the lotus flowers, observing rare birds, and savoring rural cuisine while relaxing and having fun. At the same time, the wetland has also attracted many photography enthusiasts, who have captured beautiful images of the harmonious countryside.
