Fengyang Vine Tea is a specialty of Fengyang County, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province. Rich in amino acids, vitamins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and various essential trace elements required by the human body, Fengyang Vine Tea boasts unique effects such as reducing fat and blood pressure, clearing heat and detoxifying, and protecting the liver while enhancing beauty. It is a new type of health food that combines nutrition, wellness, and medicinal benefits.

Vine tea, also known as mountain sweet tea, eyebrow tea, white tea, or dragon beard tea, is made from the stems and leaves of purely wild plants using traditional craftsmanship combined with modern technology. It has a sweet taste and cool nature, making it not only a natural green beverage but also an extraordinary tea with strong medicinal and health benefits.

The wild planting area of vine tea in Fengyang County is approximately 150,000 mu, mainly concentrated in the Jiushan Mountain area in the southern mountainous region, forming a relatively large wild resource base. Currently, the raw materials used for processing mainly come from wild resources growing in the mountains, making it a genuinely green product. The processing method is primarily manual. Although manual processing of vine tea in Fengyang County has a long history, it is little known to outsiders, resulting in very limited sales. In recent years, a few larger producers have emerged, and in 2008, a set of processing equipment was introduced for mechanical production. However, issues such as small scale, unscientific processing techniques, poor product quality, and low economic returns persist. Moreover, due to limited public awareness of vine tea, annual sales amount to only about 5,000 kilograms, restricting processing and resulting in low output value. Since wild vine tea grows sporadically in the mountains, harvesting is inconvenient and yields are small. In the past two years, farmers in Jiushan Mountain have begun to spontaneously cultivate wild seedlings manually to facilitate picking and improve the quality of vine tea. However, the cultivation area remains small, has not yet reached a significant scale, and processing is extensive—with many products lacking packaging and thus having poor marketability—hindering the further development of Fengyang County’s vine tea industry.

Vine tea is not only a natural green beverage but also an extraordinary tea with strong medicinal and health benefits. It is rich in flavonoids, amino acids, vitamins, and essential trace elements required by the human body. Compared to regular tea, its nutritional profile is more comprehensive. Additionally, it offers notable therapeutic effects—for example, it helps prevent cardiovascular diseases such as arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, and atherosclerosis. It also provides good health support for osteoporosis, offers preventive benefits against cancer, and scientists have even referred to vine tea as the “miracle element of life” and a catalyst for extending life.

In recent years, as living standards have improved, vine tea—an all-natural, wild, side-effect-free, and pollution-free dual-purpose health product for both food and medicine—has gained increasing popularity. Therefore, developing vine tea holds immeasurable potential. Especially in the mountainous towns of Fengyang, vine tea production can be vigorously developed as part of green, eco-friendly agriculture and distinctive farming, gradually expanding and strengthening to become another pillar industry in agricultural production in these regions.
