Yangshan Martyrs' Cemetery

Yangshan Martyrs' Cemetery is located at the southern foot of Xianling Mountain, facing south with its back to the north, covering an area of about 10 hectares. The cemetery's main entrance is a marble archway, with side gates on the east and west. The frames of the side gates are inlaid with the eight-character seal script phrases “Heroic Spirits Live Forever” and “Noble Spirit Endures,” which complement the grandeur of the archway. Inside the archway is a platform surrounded by vibrant reds and greens, with flourishing flowers, and a large stone carving is embedded at the front. There are more than 2,000 neat and sturdy steps, flanked by green cypresses, leading directly to the memorial monument, symbolizing the everlasting vitality of the martyrs.

The monument stands majestic and solemn, towering into the sky, with a dazzling red five-pointed star embedded at its top. The front of the monument is inscribed with “Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs,” while the back bears the words “Revolutionary Martyrs Live Forever.” It stands proudly atop the hill.

Behind the monument lie the martyrs' tombs—circular, domed structures that house the remains of the fallen heroes, exuding a tranquil and respectful atmosphere. On the slopes beside the steps, there are also memorial pavilions built, their railings reflecting the lush greenery, making them ideal spots for sightseeing.

The martyrs' cemetery is solemn and dignified, adorned with lush greenery and blooming flowers, adding even more beauty to Xianling Mountain. Among the sea of ancient pines and cypresses, clusters of flowers are delicately interspersed, blending harmoniously with the pavilions and towers. On the wide walls within the garden is a set of large reliefs titled “Inscription of Aspiration,” with the three characters calligraphed by the renowned Chinese painter Guan Shanyue.
