Former Site of the Lianhe County People's Government

The former site of the Lianhe County People's Government is a cultural relic protection unit of Heping County, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the Lianhe County People's Government is located in Shantang Village, Qingzhou Town, Heping County.

In mid-March 1947, after Yan Shangmin, Wei Nanjin, and Zhong Junxian from the Ninth Guerrilla Area Committee of the Chinese Communist Party arrived in the Ninth Guerrilla Area from Hong Kong to convey directives from the Hong Kong Bureau regarding the situation, tasks, and the resumption of armed struggle, the combat effectiveness of the troops continued to grow, and the liberated and guerrilla zones kept expanding. The HeXi and HeDong County Committees, following the instructions of the Ninth Guerrilla Area Committee to promptly establish people’s governments, set up a number of township and village-level people’s governments. On January 1, 1949, the Lianhe County People’s Government was established in Shantang, Qingzhou. It was under the leadership of the Ninth Guerrilla Area Committee, and administered the HeXi area as well as townships including Zhongxin and Shangping in Lianping, Dahu, and Huahua. The county magistrate was Luo Weiqiang, with deputy magistrates Deng Ji and Huang Zhiyou, secretary Xu Zicai, finance department head Ye Jixiang, civil affairs department head Luo Baoxuan, education and culture department head Zeng Xianzhang, and military department head Lai Shude. The government offices were located in the Liu Family Ancestral Hall and remained there until the liberation of Heping County, after which they were relocated to the current site of the Heping County Government.

This former site is a ancestral hall of the local Liu family, originally built in the late Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 1,024 square meters, with a total width of 9.5 meters and a depth of 29 meters. It has a structure of wood, earth, bricks, and tiles, faces west while sitting east, and features a flush gable roof with gray tiles. The original walls were made of mud bricks. In 2011, the city and county governments funded renovations that replaced the mud brick walls with red brick walls and changed the roof style to a hanging gable.

In December 1983, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit by the Heping County Government. In June 2011, it was declared a patriotic education base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
