Seaweed Stinky Tofu vs. Seaweed Mochi – "Algae Fun" Delights Fill Peace Island Park

"Algae Fun!" Inside Peace Island Park in Keelung City, there’s a creative cuisine restaurant themed around "seaweed." Owner Xie Chenhuang uses locally sourced seaweed from Peace Island along with global seaweed dishes to create a variety of delicious meals. Paired with the park’s breathtaking sea-and-sky views and unique rock formations, it’s a place where travelers seeking “fun and flavor” will want to visit.

Xie Chenhuang said he was drawn to the beautiful geological landscape of Peace Island Park, coupled with its abundant seaweed resources, which inspired him to open a creative seaweed cuisine restaurant. Most of the seaweeds used in the dishes come from the local waters around Peace Island, but some are imported from abroad—such as Indonesia’s rare coral algae, Korea’s round seaweed, and edible seaweeds from Japanese waters—to allow visitors to enjoy seaweed varieties from around the world.

Speaking of the restaurant’s signature dishes, Xie Chenhuang said that for the main courses, seaweed stinky tofu and seaweed hotpot are both popular items. In particular, the combination of stinky tofu and seaweed offers a uniquely delicious taste, and the broth of the seaweed hotpot is rich yet not greasy. For desserts, there are taro yam pudding with bird’s nest jelly and seaweed mochi. "Our taro yam pudding is definitely better than Jiufen’s!" Xie Chenhuang said confidently. For drinks, blue algae juice is refreshing and helps cut through richness—definitely a must-have after a meal.

Aside from enjoying the seaweed dishes, visitors shouldn’t miss taking in the sights of Peace Island Park. Xie Chenhuang noted that the park offers stunning sunrises and sunsets, and its unique rock formations are even more spectacular than those at Yehliu. The waters are clear and azure, and the park also features a natural seawater swimming pool. He also reminds visitors that during the peak summer season, it’s best to come after 3 or 4 p.m. to avoid the heat.
