Starting January 1, Heping Island Park is Free to the Public — Come Admire the Breathtaking Sea Views

(Updated at 18:37) Keelung’s Heping Island Park will be free to the public from New Year’s Day next year until February 15, just before Lunar New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has decorated the park with romantic light sculptures using LED lights and leftover bulbs from Taiwan’s annual Lantern Festival. The public is invited to visit Heping Island on New Year’s Day to enjoy both the light displays and the magnificent sea views.

The North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration announced that from January 1 to February 15 next year, Heping Island Park and its parking lot will be temporarily toll-free and open for public use. From February 16 onward, a cleaning and insurance fee of NT$20 per person will be charged, except for those exempted by official notice. After the official reopening, fees will be charged according to the officially scheduled rates posted on-site.

In response to winter conditions, Heping Island Park will be open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. During the initial operation period, the outsourced operator plans to offer one free guided tour at 10:30 AM and another at 2:30 PM on national holidays, allowing visitors to learn more about the natural environment and cultural stories of Keelung’s Heping Island area through the guides’ introductions.

Additionally, the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration has repurposed usable lanterns or LED lights left over from the annual Taiwan Lantern Festival to create a lighting environment. Paired with energy-efficient LED decorations and themed “A Warm and Happy Coast,” the administration has crafted a joyful, cozy, tranquil, and romantic lighting ambiance in Heping Island Park. The display will run from now until early March next year. Visitors are welcome to come to Keelung’s Heping Island Park to enjoy the romantic light sculptures and breathtaking sea views.
