Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Heping County

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Heping County is a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Heping County is located on a small hilltop south of the city on Xianlie Road in Yangming Town, Heping County.

This monument was built to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs from Heping who sacrificed their lives during the revolutionary war period. Construction began in February 1957. The base is hexagonal, with each side measuring 2.5 meters. The platform spans 680 square meters, and the monument stands in the center of the platform, constructed from mountain rocks with a bullet-shaped spire. The monument is built from mountain stones, surfaced with stone plaster, and has a hexagonal plan, standing 14.6 meters tall. It has a secondary 30-centimeter-high base, with each side of the base measuring 4 meters. The bottom edge of the main body measures 2.6 meters, and at a height of 2.8 meters, a waist eave is built. Below the eave are inscribed plaques featuring the preface and the list of martyrs. On the north and south sides above the eave are raised reliefs reading “Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Heping County,” while the other four sides are inscribed with “Lofty Aspirations and Great Merits,” “Good Children of the Proletariat,” “Revolutionary Martyrs Live Forever,” and “Heroic Sacrifice Endures Forever.” The top is hexagonal and platform-like, encircling the monument.

In recent years, four pavilions have been newly built under the platform of the martyrs' monument, surrounding stairways have been laid out, comprehensive greening has been carried out, and a major renovation of the monument itself has been conducted. In 2001, the South Gate was built. There is a memorial archway gate at the foot of the mountain on both the north and south sides, with stairways leading directly up to the monument.

In August 1985, it was designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Heping County Government. In December 2002, it was designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Guangdong Provincial Government.

In November 1995, it was designated as a Patriotic Education Base by the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In May 2000, it was designated as a Patriotic Education Base by the Heping County Party Committee and County Government.
