Former Residence of Lin Qilian

The former residence of Lin Qilian is located in Shuixi Village, Guzhai Town, Heping County.

Lin Qilian, also known as Lin You, was born in January 1919 in Shuixi, Guzai, Heping County. In 1938, he participated in a patriotic anti-Japanese youth study class. In July 1939, he joined the “Heping County Wartime Cadre Training Class” and later became a member of the Communist Party of China. During this period, he assisted the “Dongjiang Overseas Chinese Homecoming Service Corps” in carrying out publicity and service activities in Guzai. In November 1940, he attended a cadre training class organized by the county committee in Xindong, Reshui Township. In February 1941, he was appointed as the Propaganda Commissioner of the (Lower) Reshui District Committee of the CPC and was hired as the Academic Dean of the Xiache Shihan Yucheng Senior Primary School, where he carried out underground work. In August 1944, he attended a rectification study class organized by the CPC Houdong Special Committee on the Dapeng Peninsula in Bao’an County on the front lines of the Anti-Japanese War. Later, he served as the Deputy Special Commissioner of the CPC Hexi County Committee. In January of the following year, he was responsible for restoring the party activities in Xiache District and Lower Reshui, and worked with Huang Bailian to restore the party activities in Upper Reshui. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he taught at Yinghua Primary School in Liucun, Reshui, and was in charge of the local party work in Heping County. In June 1946, he was appointed as the Special Commissioner of the CPC Hexi County Committee. He passed away in February 1947 due to illness at the age of 28. After the liberation, he was posthumously recognized as a revolutionary martyr.

This former residence was originally built in the late Qing Dynasty, with a total width of 33 meters, a total depth of 30 meters, and a land area of about 1,000 square meters. It has a three-courtyard, two-wing layout. The structure is made of earth, wood, brick, and tile, featuring a flush gable roof, with the wing rooms having a hipped gable roof and gray tiles. The ridges are formed by stacking tiles, the walls bear loads via purlins, the wall base is made of pebbles, the walls are constructed from mud bricks, and the surfaces are coated with lime plaster. The main entrance features a recessed doorway, with a central upper and lower hall connected by a courtyard. There are corridors and side rooms on both sides, and passageways leading to the wing rooms. In front of the wing rooms is a rectangular courtyard, and there is a spacious front yard. The residence is now uninhabited and quite dilapidated.

In 2012, it was included in the Heping County Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage Protection.
