Battle Site of the Western Cenggangzhai

The Battle Site of the Western Cenggangzhai is located on a small hill behind Loubei in Zhaixi Village, Shangling Town, Heping County.

In March 1948, Chen Shitang, deputy commander of the Lianhe People's Volunteer Brigade, led a main platoon of the Western Unit and over 80 members of the Reshui Unit, operating in the areas of Cenggang in Shangling Town and Sanheng in Dingnan, Jiangxi. On the 8th, the unit went to Dingnan, Jiangxi, to punish the local despotic landlord Xie Jingsen and the village head Wen Weiyao, confiscating their property and transporting the materials back to Western Cenggangzhai overnight. Upon discovering this, the Dingnan County Security Forces dispatched over 200 armed men to pursue them. At 8 a.m. on the 9th, while the soldiers were having breakfast, they suddenly heard the enemy approaching. All soldiers immediately climbed up to the hill behind the houses, took up defensive positions, and engaged the enemy, marking the beginning of the Battle of Western Cenggangzhai. The battle continued until 4 p.m., when the enemy was finally repelled. During the battle, Deputy Commander Chen Shitang died a heroic death at the age of 31.

In January 2012, it was included in the Heping County Register of Immovable Cultural Relics.
