The site where the headquarters of the Third Detachment of the Dongjiang Column and the Work Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Jiulian Mountain Area were established is located in Yezhuwo, Jiulian Village, Reshui Town, Heping County.

After the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan, the Kuomintang led by Chiang Kai-shek unilaterally tore up the Double Tenth Agreement and launched the civil war. In accordance with instructions from the Central Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Committee, in order to preserve revolutionary forces, the Third Detachment of the Dongjiang Column was ordered to advance into northern Guangdong to establish a base in the Jiulian Mountains. On October 3, 1945, Detachment Commander Peng Wo and Political Commissar Zeng Yuan led the Third Detachment of Dongjiang from Huiyang. To avoid direct confrontation with the enemy, the troops traveled by night and rested by day, covering over 300 kilometers through numerous battles, and successfully arrived at Xindong in Reshui on November 1. They moved to Yezhuwo the next day. On November 3, a meeting was held to decide to rename the unit as the “Jiulian Mountain Area People’s Self-Defense Corps,” with its headquarters stationed in Yezhuwo. Zeng Yuan (also known as Zeng Jinghu) was appointed commander, and Peng Wo (also known as Zhang Zhennan) as political commissar. At the same time, the “Work Committee of the Jiulian Mountain Area” was established, with Zeng Yuan as secretary and Peng Wo, Zhai Xin, Chen Yimin, and Huang Huaming as committee members. A unified military-civilian leadership system was implemented, and operations were carried out under a dual-naming arrangement—one unit with two titles. Together with local party organizations and revolutionary forces, they began resistance activities against the enemy, marking a new chapter in the armed struggle of Heping County.

Originally, Yezhuwo was home to four families surnamed Liao, with a population of about 20 and more than 20 simple houses. In 1967, all villagers in Yezhuwo relocated to Xindong Village in Reshui Town. Due to years of neglect, the houses gradually collapsed, leaving only broken walls and peach and plum trees in front of the former homes.

In December 1983, it was designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Heping County Government.
