Former Site of the Communist Party of China’s Heping County Committee

The former site of the Communist Party of China’s Heping County Committee is located at Kaotingju on Jiefang Road in Yangming Town, the county seat of Heping County.

In January 1939, Lin Ping (Yin Linping), a member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, came to Heping to inspect work and conveyed the Provincial Committee’s directive at Kaotingju regarding “Party organizations should actively cultivate their own strength during the (Anti-Japanese) War process and prepare to play a decisive role on the South China battlefield in the final stages of the war,” as well as instructions to establish a local county committee. In May, the Heping County Committee of the Communist Party of China was established, with Luo Xiang serving as secretary. It was under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, and its office was located at Kaotingju. In August, Lin Ping, in his capacity as secretary of the “Dongjiang Special Committee of the Communist Party of China,” returned to Heping to guide work again. At Kaotingju, he conveyed to the Heping County Committee the CPC Central Committee’s “Decision on Consolidating the Party” and the Guangdong Provincial Committee’s view that “the situation in Guangdong is expected to deteriorate soon.” He also announced that Fang Hua had been selected by the Executive Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China as a delegate to the 7th National Congress of the CPC and was immediately reassigned to work at the Longchuan Central County Committee. Following Lin Ping’s instructions, after careful selection, Zhou Baoshi was appointed to succeed as secretary of the Heping County Committee.

This former site is a building that originally belonged to a local family surnamed Zhu. Constructed in the late Qing Dynasty, it covers an area of 280 square meters, with a width of five bays (10.8 meters) and a depth of 12.6 meters. The structure is made of earth, wood, and brick tiles, with blue brick foundations, mud-brick walls coated with lime plaster on the surface, a flush gable roof, and a recessed entrance gate. The main gate faces the old streets of Yangming Town, and right across from it is the current location of the Heping County People’s Government.

In January 2012, it was included in the Heping County Register of Immovable Cultural Relics.

Yangming Town: Located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province and adjacent to Dingnan County in Jiangxi, Yangming Town is both the county seat and a central town. In 2003, the former towns of Fucheng and Liangxi were merged into it. The town covers a total area of 203.7 square kilometers, with a total of 17,512 mu of arable land and 220,000 mu of forested land. The urban area currently spans 5.7 square kilometers, with plans to expand to 24 square kilometers, including an old urban district of 3.75 square kilometers and a developing new urban district of 17.3 square kilometers.
