Kiev Zoo

Opened in 1909 and covering an area of 40 hectares, Kiev Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the former Soviet Union. It is currently the only zoo in Kiev and remains highly popular among visitors, attracting around 280,000 guests each year to this world teeming with rare animals.

Kiev Zoo houses 328 species and more than 2,600 animals, making it a massive and ideal destination for both learning about and observing wildlife. The zoo is planted with over 130 different types of trees and shrubs, which not only serve a significant decorative function but also create a favorable natural habitat for the animals, allowing them to live in a more comfortable and secure environment. The zoo's animal collection includes species from around the world—mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, insects, snakes, and more—offering visitors the chance to see a diverse range of creatures, from lively and adorable to fierce and gentle, all within the same park.

Kiev Zoo also functions as a scientific research center where zoologists and experts study foreign animal species. In addition, the zoo is involved in the conservation and breeding of rare animals, such as the Amur tiger and the American bison.
