Tianjin Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park

Tianjin Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Tianjin Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park, situated on Baguatan in Hangu, Binhai New Area, Tianjin, distinguishes itself with the unique appeal of the “Kiev” aircraft carrier as its centerpiece, an expansive 7-square-kilometer land and sea area offering vast development potential, and its rich technological and educational content focused on military and marine themes. The park offers highly engaging, participatory, entertaining, and thrilling experiences, while also serving as a grand-scale national defense education base. These strengths position the park as the dominant force in Tianjin’s tourism market and an unrivaled “star” attraction and “trump card” product in the Beijing-Tianjin area. Aircraft carrier tourism is set to become a true “tourism giant,” transforming the Tianjin coastline into something truly remarkable. For the foreseeable future, this project will remain among the top scenic areas in the Beijing-Tianjin region in terms of overall competitiveness.

Tianjin Binhai Aircraft Carrier Theme Park borders the Bohai Bay to the east, the Hanbei Highway to the west, the Hangu urban area to the north, and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, Tanggu District, and Tianjin Port to the south. It is 45 kilometers from downtown Tianjin and 175 kilometers from Beijing. The site lies along the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan urban corridor and faces Dalian and Yantai across the sea. It is accessible via a well-connected transportation network, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Expressway, Tangjin Expressway, Jinbin Expressway, Shanguang Expressway, Beijing-Guangzhou Expressway, and the Jinbin Light Rail.

The “Kiev” aircraft carrier is the lead ship of the Kiev-class. It measures 273.1 meters in length, 52.8 meters in width, and 61 meters in height, with a standard displacement of 32,000 tons and a full load displacement of 40,500 tons. It has a range of 13,000 nautical miles, a maximum speed of 32 knots, and accommodates 1,400 crew members and 33 aircraft, including 19 Ka-27/Ka-25 anti-submarine helicopters, 12 Yak-38 short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) fighters, plus one trainer and one early warning aircraft. The hull is divided into 17 decks—8 above the deck on the superstructure and 9 below—with a total of 1,400 crew members. The ship’s hull number is 075.

On October 9, 2005, Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area Industrial Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tianjin TEDA Investment Holdings Co., Ltd.) acquired the 5.57 km² land previously owned by Tianjin International Amusement Port Co., Ltd., along with the “Kiev” aircraft carrier, through a public auction. The company plans to develop the site comprehensively, using the “Kiev” aircraft carrier as the main attraction and focusing on entertainment-based military activities. By combining participatory entertainment with national defense education, the area will be developed into the world’s largest military-themed park centered around military themes.

Tianjin TEDA Military Theme Park will fully leverage the immense intangible value and social impact of the Kiev aircraft carrier, taking advantage of the Bohai Bay’s maritime strengths, the economic advantages of Binhai New Area, and the large tourist population from the Beijing-Tianjin region. The goal is to create a massive leisure and entertainment destination centered on the aircraft carrier, built upon a framework of military culture and marine ecology. It aims to become a world-class, internationally standard flagship tourism product for Tianjin.
