Tianjin Foreign Studies University

Tianjin Foreign Studies University (abbreviated as “Tianjin Foreign Studies” or “TFS”) is a higher education institution characterized by its strength in foreign languages and literature, along with the coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as literature, economics, management, law, education, art, and engineering. It is one of the first eight independently established higher foreign language institutions in China.

History

One of the predecessors of Tianjin Foreign Studies University was Tianjin College of Commerce and Industry, founded in 1921. Its main predecessor was Qinhuangdao Foreign Languages College, established in 1964, which was later renamed Hebei Foreign Languages College and then Tianjin Foreign Languages College. In 1974, with the approval of the State Council's Science and Education Group, the school was reinstated and renamed Tianjin Foreign Languages Institute, and later, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Tianjin Foreign Studies University.

Campus Information

The university currently has two campuses: Machingdao and Binhai, covering a total area of 1,040.06 acres. The Machingdao Campus is located in the Wudadao Cultural and Tourism District of Tianjin, featuring numerous historic buildings, including the Bell Tower (the former main building of Tianjin College of Commerce and Industry), which is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The Binhai Campus is situated in the Dagang Higher Education Eco-Park in Binhai New Area, boasting picturesque scenery with lakes and greenery.
